I noticed my new Brietling is getting ahead abut 25 seconds per week. Is this normal?

25 seconds a week is about 3.5 a day, wich is pretty accurate for a mechanical watch. A new watch movement hasn't been broken in, so it will probably gradually slow down a bit over the next months. Also, the position it lays in overnight will have an impact on the rate. There are plenty of threads dealing with these things, so a forum search will probably get you all the information you need.

BTW, congrats on a great watch. :)

What groucho said. I'll just add that COSC certification on mechanical watches specifies a range of -4/+6 seconds a day. At +3.5 seconds a day, you're well within specs. That, of course, assumes that the average we get by dividing 25 seconds by 7 days is actually what your watch is doing. If the watch consistently gains around 3 - 4 seconds daily, you're fine.

Reminds me of the time I took my watch to a different AD for warranty work because it was running about 10-11 sec fast. The guy was telling me that it was completely normal. I told him that COSC was -4/+6 and he was like, "yeah, 4 and six is 10, so youre fine." I basically had to force them to send it out even though it was "just fine."

I remember that story. Still cracks me up. Maybe if you told him, "This goes to eleven," he would have realized there was a problem.

-28/+42 secs per week is within COSC specs
