Post subject:  How long can you leave the chrono running for?

Yesterday I thought I'd give the chrono on my super avenger a test pressed it and observed it.
Somehow got disturbedby something and totally forgot about it.

Went to put on my watch this morning and realised the chrono was still on, so it's been running for about 22-23 hours.
Would this have done any damage to my watch letting it run for so long?

oh no...you might have to bring the watch in to get the movement rebuilt..CRAP! youre looking at about 2500 usd.

JK youre fine. no worries at all

:yeahthat

You can leave the chrono running all the time, if you like. The only thing you will experience is a minimal reduction in the power reserve and a very slight (un-noticable) wear in the drive train of the chrono. I will often start the chrono function on my watches and leave them running for min 24 hours just to keep the "whole" watch movement lubed up and in tip top shape.

I've owned my BlackBird for almost 4 years and have had the chrono running the whole time....no problems and never gave it a second thought :-)

really? i find i hardly use the chrono function. 4 years must be some sort of record.

I don't believe there's any problem with running Breitling chronos consistently, apart from slightly increased wear. However (and just for info) you're advised not to run a Zenith El Primero chronograph permanently due to it's horizontal clutch.

I'll go one step further and say that you did a good thing.

Running the chrono for 24 hours once a month will help to ensure that the chrono movement remains well lubricated.

I use mine once a week when I am in the office on weekends to time myself before the office alarm rearms. I started it now too for fun

So by luck I have done my watch a favour then.
Learn something new everyday, never would have guessed that leaving the chrono running for 24 hours once per month will be good for the insides.
Thanks guys!

Id have never thought that either!

brilliant tip for new players.

im just so used to seeing the second hand sweeping rather than the smaller complication giving the reading. (Navi 01)
