Going to a bachelor party in Mexico, there will be late nights, booze, etc. I am thinking of going watch-less. I can't decide if I should wear a big shiny Breitling without fear, or if I am inviting a bad situation down there by doing that. I don't have any lesser substitute other than a dressy Movado which would look ridiculous down there.

Thoughts?

I think watchless might be a good idea. I usually wear whatever I want when im boozing it up (and trust me, I do a lot of stupid stuff), but being out of the country is a bit more unsettling. I woke up one morning with my watch missing. Turns out I gave it to somebody to hold for me while I got a massage from some girl I didnt know.

I would leave the Breitlings at home, maybe pick up a $29 Timex/Casio for the trip (?).

Watch-less, gold-less, anything fancy-less IMO.

My cousin died on a trip to Mexico @ 25.

I would leave it at home. Wear a G-shock. A watch isn't worth getting stabbed.....or worse. :guns:

Good call gents......Why deal with the hassle or the concern?

Yeah, RJ, I'm not worried about boozing chaos damaging or losing a watch, I'm worried about getting robbed/mugged leaving a bar blasted at 4 AM. If I was just posting up at the resort pool the whole time I wouldn't care.

Too bad, I sold off a much cheaper quartz Tag and a RW a couple months ago figuring I would never wear them again. My cell phone won't work down there......it's probably best if I have no idea what time it is anyway.

When I see the sun come up a fourth time I will know it's time to go back to the airport. Glad we all decided on this together.

Guys, Cabo isn't like the mainland. After Tijuana the peninsula is tame. You may not want to wear a nice watch stumbling out of a bar at 4am there, but it wouldn't be much different stumbling out of a bar at 4am in most places.

I'm assuming being relevant to this thread, it was due to some jewelry-related mishap, and not from drinking the water?

IMO just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, easy to forget how much poverty there is for some people, and desperate people will do some crazy shit if temped.

Lots of people go there every day and return home safely. But no reason to be riskier than necessary on a 4 day bender.

I was just there and left my ling at home. It probably wouldn't have been a problem because there is so much money in the tourist area of cabo but who wants to push it? I picked up a nixon for the trip and it told me what time it was just fine.

I've lived six years in Caracas, Venezuela and got mugged twice on the streets. I got my Nikes and Levis jean jacket (it was the early 90's and I was in my early teens...spare me the fashion comments  ) taken from me. Regardless, I would still wear my Breitling in Cabo. I bought it, to wear it and use it. Cabo shouldn't be that bad anyways and you'll be with company most of the time. Plus, all the crazy "hangover" stories will make the watch that more dear to you 8)

In my stupid younger days I'd wear it. Now that I'm older, wiser, and too old to street fight, I'd leave it home. Like you you said, the only think you will need to tell the time is the sun rise anyway!
