Post subject:  Blackbird Blacksteel vs Blackbird SS Brushed..would you own

If you already owned a Blackbird BS, would you buy a Blackbird SS brushed version as well?

I've always loved the BB in the brushed version, and someone mentioned that they are being discontinued....also I'm really not a fan of the direction Breitling has been going lately with their designs (new bezel)...

I recently bought a BBBS, and it's a sweet piece, but I still have a lust for the BB SS.... would it be silly to own two of basically the same watch?

Honestly, I would sell the BBBS first to get the other, but just wondering what others thoughts were on owning two of the same watch ...in a way....

I do have a buddy who has a few Hercules in different colors and AS's in SS and BS....so I guess it's not unheard of.

I have owned a brushed BB before and thought it was a superb piece. When I saw the BBBS in person, I was a bit disappointed. Great watch, but wore a bit small for me. Just my opinion.

As for owning two of the same, why not? I bought my SA BS in 2009. Love it. This year I picked up the stainless version and love it almost more than the BS version. I think if you love a style or model in particular, and they make it in different versions, then that's TWO ways of making yourself happy. :D Go for it! :lingsrock:

silly?? HELL NO! if you like it then why would you think its silly. but i guess what youre thinking of is variety in your collection? from your signature it seems like you have some varying pieces, so as long as you really want it i say do it.

I can't tell ya what to do but I'll share my experience. Last year I owned a black dial polished BB and a black-eye-blue brushed BB at the same time. One day I woke up and asked myself why the hell do I have so many of the same watches???? Two blackbirds, two worlds, two Olympus???? I felt like I had all this money tied up in watches that all looked the same....so I sold most and bought watches that looked differed to add some variety. I no longer wish to have watches in my rotation that look similar....and I think the BB brushed and the BB BS are too similar for my liking...but that's jut my thinking, if you think they're different enough and you love them both , then go for it and enjoy.

Looks like you really love the BB in SS and its been in the back of your mind, hence your post  . My two Canadian cents, sell the BBBS and get what you really "lust" for: the BB in SS! No need to have two of the same, since they are the same watch, just the finishing is different. Then add something completely different in your collection.

Either way, let us know on what you decide!

It's not silly if you like them both enough that you want to own both of them. Personally, I'm not such a big fan of the blacksteel, so that's an easy call for me. Beyond that, I would have to really, really like a given model of watch if I were to buy two versions of it, as opposed to some other watch. Per your situation, if it were me, I would sell the blacksteel and get the stainless. But as others are pointing out, this is totally personal preference, and there is no right or wrong. If you like them both, there's no harm in having both. Another point worth considering: the Blackbird in its current design is being discontinued, so maybe having more than one isn't a bad idea.

That is a great pictoral example of how different the standard and BS versions look.

I would definitely own a standard and BS version of the same Breitling.

It is available either polished or brushed.

I'm not a big fan of Breitling's recent uses of color accents, but I've got to say, that Red Strike is pretty handsome. One aspect I particularly like is the red helps distinguish the tachymetre rim from the main dial markings, so it doesn't look quite as busy. I'm not sure if I like it better than the standard dial, but having two LEs of a well-loved, discontinued model does have a definite appeal.

Ah yes, you're right, the Breitling UK site only shows it as polished unless you go in to the configurator.

I know the Blacksteel versions look very different to the standard models, but I agree with mfserge after having owned more than one of couple of models at the same time. I used to have two Navi Worlds and two SA's at the same time. Now obviously having two SS models of the same watch with just different coloured dials is a bit different to having one SS and one BS model, but ultimately it's still the exact same watch.

My personal view was that, for me, it was a bit of a waste of money, when I could've had just one and something completely different as well. But I had to go through the whole "owning two" thing to realise that. That said, I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do, so if you like them both then I'd say go for it. You may find in a year of so that you actually don't need both, or you may not : either way, there's times we just need to live for the moment.
