Just received a Breitling Hercules, this is the first watch I have owned without a date.
I know its probably been done before, whats peoples opinions and experiences with a watch without a date?

As you can see from the above phots it comes on a integrated bracelet so no breitling straps will fit.
However i have seen one on a forum with a strap fitted. IMO didn,t suit.
Any thoughts on not being able to add straps to it?

The Hercules is a beast and weighs it at 215 grams ish so i had worries about the weight.
My thoughts at this moment in time are that it doesnt feel any heavier on the wrist than a Steelfish which is only around 160 grams.
Has excellent wrist presence and it feels very comfortable(however early days).

Heres a shot of the Herc enjoying the Yorkshire sunshine.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking

Colin

Personally, I need a date function. Having grown up and spent a fair amount of my adult years without the extra appendage of a cell phone, I am in the habit - and it is a habit - of looking to my watch for the date throughout the work day as I sign stuff. It's not that I am incapable of memorizing/remembering the date, rather I'm used to glancing quickly many times a day. Why go against the flow? So for me - a date function is an essential feature when I consider a watch.

That said, I do like the Hercules black dial quite a bit. Congrats BTW.

I use my date everyday. I don't know what I would do w/out it! haha I've grown so used to having it, it would take a while to adapt to not having one. I'm in love w/ the Portuguese Chrono & want one badly but know it would take some time to get used to not having my beloved date window!

I've got some non date pieces and it doesn't bother me. I might find myself occasionally glancing at my wrist for the date, but it's so easy to find elsewhere that it's not really an issue for me.

I'd look at it as one less thing to worry about! Great to grab and go.

The date will be irrelevant after December 21st of next year anyway. J/K. Nice watch. How does the weight feel compared to Super Avenger?

I did try one watch with no date and over the brief period I wore it, it bugged me. It would be nice were it not so for me - there are so many amazing pieces out there with no dates. (hmmmm...that could be taken in two different directions :) ). I too would likely have purchased a Port. Chrono long ago but for the lack of a date function.

Like everything else - it is strictly a personal deal. I suspect the vast majority here will do just fine without a date function. For me, it is essential.

I had a Herc for a few years and really liked it. But I do prefer a model with date. The Herc is a great looking piece with great wrist presence, and I really liked the bracelet as well. But I am just a tad bit happier with my Super Avenger. The one thing that the Herc has though, is that excellent complicated movement. It is truly a great time piece. Congrats!

I can understand that, I felt the same way briefly when I got the first piece without a date. I guess as I am a fan of vintage pieces I am more used to non date models and I just trained myself to different behaviour - the date is in the bottom right corner of the screen as I type this

First, congrats on the watch - it looks great!

I have a couple of vintage Speedmasters, and when I wear them I do without a date. I have a bunch of vinatge pieces, many of which don't have quick-set date, so after those the Speedys are a nice change of pace!

While I can't speak to not having a date function I will say that I don't think having an integrated bracelet is an issue. I have the legende with the integrated bracelet and I love it. The integration makes the lines between the case and bracelet seamless and just gives the watch a great look. While you can't change out the straps ( I do have a SA that I switch straps on) I'm personally more a fan of having metal anyway and I don't like swapping straps as I feel you inevitably always scratch the inside of the lugs, which bothers me... so congrats on the new watch!

I'm with you Sharkie. It's not like you can't find the date elsewhere, still...I have the same (bad?) habit.

Not to mention the fact that looking at your wrist is much less time consuming than taking you cell phone out of your pocket, then hitting a key (or two if you have to unlock it) to bring the screen into life...
