Hi all hope you can help! I'm looking for some solid advice from the professionals on here!

Today I decided after 43 years on this planet I need a decent timepiece! A pal of mine has long since had a few Breitlings and I have decided to take the plunge!

Went to my local jewellers and spent ages looking at the beautifull timepieces that are Breitling!

For my first (of many) foray into the Breitling world I have narrowed it down to The superocean (abyss blue) steel strap v the avenger. Both completely different I know but heres where I need Help. Both would look great on my wrist, but which is the better technically and why. which is the more shockresistant. Are there any negatives that i should be aware of??

Many many thanks in advance!

G'day,
I'm not sure you can easily pick a winner on shock resistance and technical quality. They're both well beyond what most of us will ever need in terms of accuracy (otherwise you'd go superquartz). They're also both very rugged and can take whatever beating you throw at them. The major difference is size and chrono v non chrono. Do you want a chronograph watch? Most people here would probably suggest you go with the one that just draws you in.

thanks for replying....It may end up being both!!

I won't use the crono to be fair but i was taken by the weight and look of the machine. The design and lines are beautifull. The superocean just looked so good, amazing.

Went on another site earlier and read reviews of the superocean getting slated ( all be it because it is no longer considered a "diving watch" per se ) and that it has become a fashion watch!

I have both and if I could only keep one it would be the Avenger. Its just bigger and nicer. I rarely use the chronograph either, but that doesnt change the fact that it looks good.

BTW, the Superocean actually got a very good review from Watchtime magazine. It was posted on here a few months ago (by FEAR, I think), so if you search youll probably be able to find it.

EDIT: Here it is:

It has to be what attracts you most.

I went superocean, my chronograph will be in the form of a navitimer...

I think that's a vote for both!

There really isn't any difference between them from a technical / ruggedness standpoint. They are both from the Aeromarine range which is the most rugged group of Breitlings. The SuperOcean will be simpler (and cheaper) to service as it doesn't have the chrono, but I wouldn't decide on model based on that - as others have said, get the one that appeals most.

I own the superocean abyss and love it, i also love the look of the avenger but i will never use the chrono. So i bought the avenger seawolf, basicly the same without the chrono. steve

I also have both (albeit an older version of the SO), and I would go with the Avenger. Even if you never plan to use the chrono it is nice to have and you may end up using it more than you thought.

I would go for the Avenger, or the Seawolf. Had one a year ago, and have just ordered a brand new one.....

Am afraid so! I was going to dip my toe in the ocean that is Breitling and ended up buying three! ( One Omega)

I am ecstatic with my purchases! The seawolf is poetry! Titanium and now discontinued, hence the lower price! It looks fantastic! ( brand new though and gets a 2 yr warranty) +1 from Jewellers.
