I drove my wife's Lady Cockpit up to CT to drop it off for what I thought would be the $80.00 service. I guess not. The quote is for just under $600.00 It stopped a few days ago so we figured it was just the battery. They want to replace the case at $200 and change, one hand at $64.00 and do the $300 service. They say that the crown is broken, the case tube is damaged among other various scratches. I'm going to talk to them to see what can be done. Has anyone been able to get them to adjust the quote for just what's needed to get it working again? I don't want it factory new, just working. |

Breitling don't quote for work that's not necessary, and that quote doesn't seem too bad for the work that they are recommending. If you don't agree to the work then Breitling may not agree to do just a service because they provide a one year guarantee on service work and I doubt that they will be comfortable guaranteeing the watch if it has problems. |

Thanks, thats good to know. I did talk to them today and I was able to get the technician's notes. The crown appears to have been impacted, it's bent along with the case tube. This in turn damaged some parts in the movement and it stopped working. So everything they quoted is surely required in order to bring it back to working order. For the $300.00 full service they will fix the movement and polish it like new. My bet is this thing hit the tile floor in the bathroom and one of the kids must've just piciked it up and put it back without saying anything. Who knows? My wife is rough on everything from cars to clothes so this shouldn't have suprised me. |

God forbid they get the oil changed or the brakes looked at... oh wait that's what they think we're around for! |

Oh Man... have I done the brakes. I do them my self and in a space of 14 months I've done 3 sets on her car. 2 front, one rear |

I cant tell you how many times I have been out to dinner or just around the house and I hear my wife bang her expensive timepieces against a table or the granite counter top in the kitchen... I just cringe :0(..... I remember she once asked me if she could wear one of my Breitlings to go out with the girls... I quickly stated that "I didn't think it was a good idea" lol |

I go through that weekly. I think her problem is that she has really long nails and I once saw her struggling to pull out the crown. She even used the edge of the nail as a prying device. So, when you add in the recent time change plus long nails, plus wife you get a repair bill. Now that I think I have an explanation I told her if she needs to change the time and date PLEASE let me do it. When we dropped it off she started to cry, so to make her feel better I let her wear my Submariner. That only lasted 10 minutes until I said ya know what I think I want my watch back. |

I am so glad that my wrist is so much bigger than my wife's wrist so that the issue of her wearing my watches never comes up . But I too cringe at the way she bangs her wrists against everything with no regard for her watch . |

nothing compared to my wife trying to pry the crown out with a screwdriver on her tag to change the time ( she doesn't have that anymore and i have a new Super ocean) |

On the estimate sheet it will say if the repair is R (required) or O (optional). This is also why I don't send them in unless they stop working as in your case. What used to be $150 to $350 repairs are now much more. I liken it to the auto repair business when you take your car in for service you usually get a call with a list of other things it needs besides what you took it in for. Sometimes it's best just to get it done although with watches they can't hit you with the safety angle as in cars. ![]() |
