Post subject:  Keep B01 or trade for Emergency Mission

Hey everyone,

I'm new here but have been a Breitling admirer and owner for a little while now. I purchased a B01 right before our wedding in July 2010 as an early wedding gift to myself (lol somehow convinced the wife it would equal out with her rings) after admiring them for so long and having only a few TAGs before it. While I absolutely love the watch, I find that it is too dressy to be worn everyday. I have only worn it for the wedding and a few select nights out. I have always liked the look of the Emergency Mission (no long in production of course) and am considering trading in my B01 for it, IF I can find one out there. My question to you guys (who are much greater experts than I ever shall be) is what you think? Is the B01 a better watch to keep for the long haul? Any opinions you guys have are appreciated!

And keeping the B01 and purchasing the Emergency isn't an option as the wife would kill me and keep them all to herself haha

I think it is all what you want to do. the Emergency is a quarts movement and i think like all the emergency it only water resistant to like 50 ft, where as your watch has the new breitling movement. and if you were getting the emergency for the intended use its a lot cheaper to just get a spot. I would love to have an emergency but I fiddle with stuff to much id be the guy that pulled the antenna just to see what it looks like

I also wanted the Emergency but when I really looked into it I really didnt need anything like that at all. Not to mention that (correct me if iam wrong) the frequency it runs on is outdated and not monitored and Ive heard the new Emergency wont be out until 2012.

lol well non of us NEED breitlings... no matter what I try to convince my wife of. but good points. from an investment standpoint... would the B01 be better to hold on to than a discontinued Emergency Mission?

I'm guessing by B01, you mean the Chronomat 01 (formerly B01)? Of course it's a matter of personal taste, but to me it's a no-brainer: keep the Chronomat. Granted, I'm not the foremost proponet of the 01's styling, but it's so much more versatile than the Emergency. As mentioned, the 01 has the in-house movement, which is the direction Breitling increasingly wants to go with it's new, higher-end models. You got in on the ground floor - enjoy it. Also as mentioned, the Emergency is quartz. In the long run, mechanical beats quartz any day. Quartz watches eventually die, but mechanical watches can remain functional for generations.

In my opinion, the notion that the Chronomat is too dressy for everyday wear is just a state of mind. I used to wear my Chronomat Evo all the time, be it with suits or with jeans, and it looked fine. The Emergency is such a specialized watch, with such a distinctive look, I don't know why you'd want it as your primary Breitling.

Just my .02.

:yeahthat . Absolutely keep the Chronomat and get a few different straps for it (at least a leather and a diver). It'll settle the watch right down.

x3. The Chronomat is far better for everyday use. I owned a E Mission and it was cool, but VERY bulky and not practical for daily wear in my opinion. AS stated earlier, just get a rubber and/or leather strap, and you will love the new look. The B01 is a superb watch!

B01 is worth at MINIMUM 1k more the an emergency mission in the prenowned market.

Get a rubber strap for it.

:yeahthat And that would be a +4 from me.
I would keep the B-01 and eventually pick up a SH EM if you continue to want/like one.

:yeahthat +6 I can't argue against anything above. The EM is nice but it is a chunky knobby watch that IMO is not the most comfortable thing to wear on a daily basis. I'd definitely keep the Chronomat and maybe consider adding the EM to your watch collection to be used in rotation or on occasion.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I think I will definitely hold on to the B01. I didn't even think about adding a different band. Is that something I can change myself, or does it have to be done at the AD? BTW, the limited edition B01 is amazing looking... wish I could convince the wife to let me get that one!
