I've heard that generally people will wear more leather straps in the winter months as it won't conduct cold like metal will and then switch to a bracelet for the summer. Are leather straps very uncomfortable in hot/humid weather? Does the increases perspiration ruin the leather faster? |

I'm currently in Florida enjoying a little vacation time and I'll tell you it only took a few minutes before I realized the leather strap and the hot/humid weather don't play well together. It's pretty uncomfortable, so the Cockpit will be staying off the wrist the rest of the time while I'm here. |

Yes, At least in my experience. I switch out leather for steel every summer. Mark |

It sounds weird but the leather just "feels" right for winter too, not in any physical way. it just seems appropriate for the colder months to be leather clad. |

Not really conducting cold (but then I am pretty tough) more that the sweat on a strap marks in the summer and a Bracelet has a more sporty look. |

I purchased my Chronomat 01 LE in Dec. and bought the croco on deployment for the cold weather, and swapped it back to the ss about 2 weeks ago. I am not sure which way I like it better, but I have the best of both worlds, summer and winter LOL |

Leather can be uncomfortable at warm/humid climates, especially if you wear your watch a bit tight. Why shorten the life of your leather strap? Go for an OR deployment strap, you'll find it so comfortable, you'll forget you're wearing a watch ![]() |

My concern is for comfort only. My leather PAM strap doesn't bother me any more than my metal bracelet on my other time pieces during the summer and quite honestly, at the price I paid for the watches and the quality of the straps, I'm not worried about "wearing out" my PAM's leather strap. Additionally, it will take years of sweating like a pig to wear out a leather strap on a decent watch and they are relatively easy (and reasonably economical) to replace when you think about the cost of a fine time piece. In my opinion, there is no "season" for the type of strap that you wear. Metal bracelets don't stay cold in the winter and you're not immune to sweat with them during the summer either. Leather straps don't cool off in winter and warm up during the summer either. Wear what you want when you want. |

interesting thread. i gotta say i never gave much thought about this. but i have noticed that if its really hot i wont wear a watch at all. Regardless of the strap or bracelet, once it gets really hot i just cant stand my wrist feeling sweaty from the watch. |

I just recently got a leather strap/deployment buckle and hadn't thought about the weather. But now that I think of it I'm sure the leather wouldn't be too great for the summer. Interesting thought. |

I imagine I'm in the minority here, but for me, sweat + leather = contact dermatitis. If I were to sweat up a leather strap, I'd have a "tan line" in the form of a very itchy rash. If I were to go with leather at all, it would have to be during cooler months, simply out of necessity. |
