Maybe I don't exactly understand how COSC certification works. But, theoretically, once a watch movement is disassembled, cleaned, lubed, serviced, and reassembled, wouldn't re-certification be necessary? |

Certified Chronometer status conferred by COSC is of the movement before it is put in the watch. If the movmement starts out as a certified chronometer, it stays one even after extensive service. The movement is not then recertified. |

sharky's compleltey correct. Your COSC certificate confirms that the movement adheres to COSC standards. Breitling puts some teeth to it by certifying that your watch can be regulated to within COSC specifications (-4/+6 seconds a day) |

Oh, I see, so COSC certification really means the movement CAN be adjusted to meet COSC criteria. |

No, it means that the movement has passed the COSC tests and been certified at some point. Breitling just goes further by saying that it can be regulated to within COSC specs at any time. |

I had my Colt GMT come back from service in December. It was running fast before and afterwards it still was. Did a number of timings and it was anywhere between 20 to 30 seconds fast per day. Not great considering that they had it for 3 months. Contacted BUK and they apologised and asked me to return it so I am just waiting for it to be regulated back to COSC again. |

I think that came across wrong. So, it is quite possible that once a service is done on my COSC certified watch, with documentation, it may longer be within COSC specs. Am I correct? |

It could be out of COSC specs the minute the movement is returned to Breitling by the COSC and cased up. But....... If the movement has proved that it is capable of operating within COSC specs then it can be regulated back to those specs. If a watchmaker cannot return a watch to COSC standards after servicing then there is a problem with the servicing itself. |

So, while it is possible to be out of COSC upon return, given that it is a COSC certified watch, I should expect it to be within COSC when returned to service. And not really expect less from Breitling? |
