why would Breitling do this...?

I sent my watch in for an overhaul and just got it back.Everything is great except 2 small issues!
One is that there's a small spec of dust on the dial(2nd time they do this) and the other is that they replaced the hour hand and not the minute hand. The problem with this is that the lume is stronger on one hand than the other. I'm thinking of sending it back so they change the other hand.Why would they change one and not the other? Or at least call me and ask me if i want to change both...?

Both hands should be changed as they are designed to be single use.

That said, if it's a modern watch the lume common doesn't make sense - SuperLuminova doesn't age. If it's an old watch that hasn't been recently serviced then they could be tritium lumed hands and tritium does age.

Either way, you have a one year warranty on service so take advantage of it.

It's a colt chrono auto so it's 12-13 yrs old.

No idea, usually SL is only damaged by water.

Only other thing that I can think of is that Breitling updated the hands with versions that had more coats of SL.

It has the potential of damaging the watch, I think. Never been a fan of resting a watch on the crown, no good can come of it.

If the crown is screwed in properly ,i don't see how it can damage it.

Correct - less of an issue with screwdown crowns because the weight is distributed better, but why put undue stress on the crown stem?

Resting the watch on the 3 or on the 9 has been a very long discussion:

People who favor resting it on the 3 say, the polished side opposite the crown will be scratched (the crown down faction).

People who favor resting it on the 9 say, the crown can be damaged (the crown up faction).

I tend to join the crown down faction , as with nowadays crowns, there should be no more issue about damaging it. But otherwise, if You look into a shop window, they are all displayed with the crown up, as it looks better...

If the watch is on a strap, resting it on its back is fine. If it is on a bracelet, the bracelet could scratch the back of the case. Restiing the watch on the crown causes no damage because the stem is detented and is held in place by the setting lever and spring. I rest mine with either crown up or crown down. I just make sure the bracelet is not touching trhe case back.

So you are concerned about potentual marks to the case back?

Is your Breitling a display back? If so I suggest putting it in its box on its cushion overnight.
If it has a metal case back I suggest you put it in its box on its cushion in a safe and never wear it.
