Hi all,

Wouldn't mind a little advice form some of you more knowledgeable members here as am currently torn between two options for my first Breitling i live quite an active lifestyle besides suffering from a serious back problem which forced me into early retirement but rarely if ever now a days find myself suited and booted as spend most of my time outdoors with my dog and or other peoples dogs.

The two watches i have found that have my attention are firstly a Breitling Navitimer 92 38mm A30022 from November 95 that has just had a full Breitling service on 6/12/10 and is mint with Breitling boxes (inner and outer) and all papers and a Blue Dial with a Breitling deployment and new non-Breitling blue leather strap which is the only thing i feel i would need to change as hate anything non original even if it is just s strap. This is priced at around £2100 and the Breitling factory warranty from the last service is good until December 2011. My only concerns about this watch as a daily wear is that it may be a little to delicate to cope with what i would put it through. What are you your thoughts on this?

The second watch i have no such qualms about as its a Breitling Emergency E56321 and is the blue dial version with the straight linked titanium bracelet (which i actually prefer the look of) its dated from January 2003 and then serviced and refurbished by Breitling in May 2005 and November 2010 the first of course was free and the last cost some £450 and it comes with all its boxes and the original Breitling warranty with service book and history stamps. Which means it won't need another service until November 2012 this one is going for around £2,300. I'm also really a little confused about the differences between the various model numbers for the Emergency besides thinking they relate to different manufacturing dates is that the correct assumption to make or are their bigger and more important differences i should be aware of? and if so how does the E56321 rate amongst them?

I believe its important to have as much history and of course all the original paperwork especially when dealing with watches of value and age that may at some time be sold I'm more likely to keep the Emergency for longer or for ever as am ever so slightly addicted to Titanium watches but which do you think would be easier for resale and hold its value better? Also how are those prices for mint with all paperwork and history? are they asking to much for them? any advice or comments would be welcome

Hi Marc,

First off welcome to Breitling source. if you are looking to talk breitling (or any watch for that matter) this is a great place. Ok moving on to your question. As you know chosing a watch comes down to personal style and preferance. And it already seems that you have asked all the right questions about the watches history and done yoru homework. These are both great watches but IMO 2 different categories. To me a navi is more of an elegant dressy look where as the emergency is more rugged and casual. From the sounds of it you seem to be leaning more towards the emergency and if that is the case then you should go with what your heart tells you. I have made the mistake in the past of getting a watch and then going to buy another right after because i did not get the one I wanted first. Is it possible for you to put both watches on at the same time and pick the one that screams "buy me now"! if it is...then i suggest doing that. Either piece you pick you cant really go wrong. Remember my comment is only on the aesthetic appeal that it has to you. If you need to talk internals or movements then someone else will be able to help you with that. Best of luck bud...and please post pics once you bring one of them home.

Two vastly different pieces, and agree that the Navitimer may be a little 'delicate' for a rugged lifestyle. However the Emergency is obviously a quartz piece, so if that's important then something from the Aeromarine range that combines sporty and rugged with (mostly) automatic pieces might be a better option.

I don't know much about UK prices, but they both sound a little pricey.

Many thanks for your responses so far although i still really do love the look of the Navitimer i really don't think it would be the best or even right choice for my needs and use so that's now out of the equation. Fortunately the money isn't burning a whole in my pocket so I'm not in a rush just to buy the first watch i find so can afford to take my time but am beginning to wonder if i really want the Emergency and the associated extra costs of owning one re servicing as well as the fact its Quartz although i do love its style and size and of course the fact its Titanium. Re this i really do think i need to buy a Titanium watch as am now so used to the light weight of them and the Oakley Judge Stealth i own which is black steel really doesn't get a lot of use as much as i love its looks due to its weight so feel a Steel Breitling may suffer the same fate. So i think I'm going to just take my time and look at all my options including either a leather or rubber strap with buckle or deployment and wait till i find the watch that really appeals to me.

i know the issue of weight gets brought up quite a bit regarding watches, but for some reason it has never been a factor in my choices. to be completely honest once you were it on your wrist for a few hours you wont notice the weight difference between watches.

I do understand what you are saying but i think even though I prefer large watches once you have a Titanium watch which is so light and have now worn one for so long time it really does exaggerate the difference more. As I said although I love the looks and style of my Oakley Judge the fact it weighs so much does stop me from wearing it very much. I'm still also wearing my original Oakley T- Wire sunglasses as have found every other pair i try are just so much heavier to what i have now got used to, having said that i haven't ruled out a Stainless Steel Breitling with a rubber or leather strap.

I wouldn't buy a watch with plans to re-sell it later. Watches just aren't great investments. Anything gold or diamonds will hold its value, for the simple fact that gold and diamonds have always been, and will always be valuable. 10 years down the line the watch might need to be professionally repaired and will have an outdated design.

That being said, I like the Navitimer. It is a more classic look. Either one would be a great watch to own.

I just went through this dilema. I ended up buying a Super Avenger. I have a big wrist, so it fits perfect. I have the Stainless bracelet, but I'm also getting a Pro Diver for it , to use on more causal situations. Just my .02 :lingsrock:

Absoloutely. Unless you're an extremely fragile male, you will not even notise it's there.
