All these recent LE's got me wondering - is there a method behind how they are numbered?

For example, the steel TransOcean 01 LE will be limited to 2,000 pieces, and is available in two dial options - silver and black. In instances like this where an LE comes in multiple dials, will the numbers always be distributed evenly across the choices (in this example, 1,000 silver, 1,000 black)? Or, are the number of pieces for each alotted based on historical popularity of the colors?

As for the individual numbers themselves, how do they assign them? Assuming there are an equal number of black dial and silver dial TO's, do they alternate numbering? So for example, 1/2000 is black, 2/2000 is silver, 3/2000 black, 4/2000 silver, etc.

Alas, it's a holiday today in the US, so I'm just sitting around thinking about my TO...

Generally the distribution of colours is even, if not then it's usually stated how many of each will be produced.

In terms of numbering they tend to be blocks of colour, but no reason why they have to be done that way. Also, there may be more than one block - i.e. 1 - 250 in one colour, 251 - 500 in the other, etc.

While on this LE topic (Roff you may have this answer already)...

Is it possible to pick which LE number you want? For example, can I order a LE and say, "I'll wait however long it takes just to get number 1884"? Or, what ever number I wish of course(but 1884 would be cool).

Just wondering.

Generally not. If you want a specific number that is not that special for other people then you may be able to request it if it hasn't already been allocated, but 'premium' numbers are usually reserved or assigned early in the process.

Don't know about 1884 specifically.

I did just that about 2 weeks ago. I contacted my AD, he contacted BreitlingUSA. They didn't have the number I wanted so they contacted Switzerland... Switzerland did not assign/sell/or make the number I wanted (not sure which)... but in the end... yes I got the number I wanted.

Apparently if the number isn't taken they can get it for you. No extra charge.

Got my birth year :P

When I called my AD about available Chronomat B01 LEs, their call to BUSA revealed they had four. So, I asked if she might ask what the numbers were and lo and behold, I got my pick of the remaining litter... #33/2000!

I'm glad I asked! BTW, this was in mid-January.

Tom
