Post subject: | Should I risk it? |
Hi, I've been trying to source a Breitling Aerospace for a while now & have stumbled across one at auction. The listing description states: Titanium Aerospace Repetition Minutes, reference E65362, serial 187184, 42mm, blue face, with original chronometer papers, booklets and box. Looks cosmetically good but not running probably due to no battery. The guide price is £500-700. My little knowledge makes me think it's a 1999 model & probably a steal at £500 but, with my luck, still not bad at £700-£800 providing it works with said battery replaced. Should I take the risk or spend yet more fruitless hours trawling the net? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wads. |

I'm not really sure what kind of advice we can give. If it's just a battery then you are fine, if the movement is dead then it's not such a good deal and is going to cost a bunch for a movement replacement - it's a gamble. |

Quote: The guide price is £500-700. You do know that most auction houses deliberately slip in a few "wow, that's cheap" guide prices to get the punters through the door? Also, this is a 'specialist watch sale' - chances are slim that you'll find a bargain with such a dedicated WIS audience. Good luck though - let us know what it went for... Mike |

Hi, Off to the Auction in ten minutes will definately let you know the outcome later tonight. Realise there are more knowledgeable people likely to be there & get-through-the-door prices but hoping they only want to pay trade prices. As this is for me personally & I'm not looking to turn a profit I might just strike lucky. At worst I'll get to see a few nice watches & have a good day out. (Unless I get carried away & buy a duffer!) Thanks for the advice will post tonight. Wads. |

Hi, I bought it!! Went straight to the jewellers on the way home to get a battery fitted & it works fine. I'm well chuffed!! ![]() The auction was great fun but I'm glad I only took my budget amount with me or I would possibly be having to re-mortgage next week:-) Never seen so many lovely watches in one place. Turns out the watch is a UK bought december 2001 model in very nice condition with complete packaging & all the paperwork. If anyone is interested in a few pics let me know & I'll post some but be warned both my camera & photographic skills leave a fair bit to be desired. Guess you'd like to know the damage on the bank account which worked out as £600.00 for the watch + £108.00 for the auction house/Tax + £40.00 battery/pressure test = £748.00. Not massively cheap but still not too bad I think & the main thing is I've got one now ![]() A big thanks to all of you guys for helping me with your advice. Right I'm off to crack a beer now & stroke my watch. Cheers Wads. |

Will try to do pics tomorrow. Don't worry about seeing me stroke it as my cheapy camera doesn't have a macro setting. ![]() |

Ok here's the pictures as promised please don't moan too much about the quality as I know as much about photography as I do watches. |
