Details just released. 46mm. ![]() With its ultra-original star-shaped bezel and its resolutely technical appearance, the new Chronospace Automatic is distinguished by an exceptional design, combined with all the qualities of an authentic Breitling pilot’s instrument. From the Navitimer to the Chronomat, along with the Superocean and the Aerospace, Breitling instruments for professionals are distinguished not only by their performances, but also by their unique and powerful looks. They radiate strong character and are recognizable at a glance. The new Chronospace Automatic pilot’s chronograph is no exception, combining form and function with inimitable style. Thanks to its unusual star-shaped design that makes it easy to use even when wearing gloves, the bidirectional rotating bezel ensures simple and easy handling of the circular slide rule serving to perform all calculations relating to airborne navigation – a valuable asset in terms of ergonomics and functionality. The sophisticated rack and pinion system driving the slide rule guarantees water resistance to 200 meters (600 ft), an exceptional achievement for this type of instrument. The large 12 o’clock numeral, square hour-markers and oversized hands, all accentuated by a luminescent coating, lend the dial a vigorous and dynamic aesthetic that ensures maximum readability and visibility, even in poor lighting conditions. The extreme precision of the time display and of short-time measurements is ensured by the Breitling Caliber 23 selfwinding chronograph movement, chronometer-certified by the COSC like all the brand’s movements. The new Chronospace Automatic is available with a choice of four dial colors – Volcano Black, Mariner Blue, Tungsten Gray and Stratus Silver – enhanced by black totalizers. The understated, powerful lines of the sturdy steel case are combined, according to taste and to usage, with various types of strap or bracelet, including sporty versions in rubber and a daring bracelet in satinbrushed woven steel. A perfect way of combining high performances with standout looks. http://www.breitling.com/pdf/ChronospaceAuto_en.pdf |

Wow, I actually really like that. I'm not a fan of the mesh bracelet but I think that will look great on a calf or even a DPII. I'm surprised that they didn't use the B01 movement considering it's pretty much the same layout, but I guess this will keep the cost down, which is also a good thing. Very cool looking watch in my opinion. |

I love it and it has a perfect size. Like a fresh air after all those horrible limited editions. |

I like that as well, interesting to see a mechanical interpretation of a quartz watch, and this works for me. I like the square style markers as well - gives it a different look. |

Cool watch, but I don't like the hour markers. I would almost have preferred to leave them all black, but now im picking nits. This thing is gonna be a hit in my opinion. |

Very nice - I think it works really well. Just a shame it's not got the B01 inside. |

I'll respresent a minority here I think: I'm sorry, but I don't like it. The square hour markers would be okay, but the way the chrono subdials and the date window cut into them just a little bit looks wrong IMHO. If those bits would cut into the hour markers more, or none at all, then I think it would look a lot better. It should also feature the B01 movement, and have a smaller diameter. |

I thought that about the hour markers initially as well, but then I realised that it was only the metal, the lume is not cut into which would occur if more was taken out. I think that works pretty well, and actually really like the way that the date window integrates with it - especially with the black date wheel. Obviously just one opinion. I also don't mind that the movement isn't in house - of course that would be nice, but then it would be yet another tri-compac in house - we need to start seeing a little more variety on that movement. |

What's wrong with using the in-house movement in more and more watch models? However, I do agree with you about the variety, but from another perspective: I'd love to see e.g. a model featuring a "cut-down" B01 with only 2 subdials, like on the Navi 125th Anniversary or the 44mm Chrono-Matic. |

Fiery wrote: What's wrong with using the in-house movement in more and more watch models? Nothing, but we heard at launch that the B01 was designed to allow for tricompax or 6-9-12 chrono layouts so I would like to see a little of that variety - maybe Basel will deliver. |

I agree the B01 could do with have a few complications now to make a couple of different movements, but the daft thing with this auto Chronospace is that it uses the B23 which has exactly the same layout as the B01 anyway! Makes no sense to me not to use the B01 in this instance. ![]() |

Then we get into the question of B01 / in house production capacity which may well factor in to the decision, especially with the work that is ongoing on the B02, B01 GMT and perhaps others. |

Interesting... I kinda like it. The increased WR to 200m is nice. Using Cal. 23, same as in the regular Navi. ? Does this mean this Chronospace does not have the quick set date function also? The size is probably still too large for me, but I'd be interested to see the thickness and weight. Hopefully more to come soon at Basel ![]() |
