Post subject:  Clasp or tang buckle?

Hi

Would anyone have any advice as to whether I should go with a clasp, or regular tang buckle on a Breitling leather strap for an earlier model Crosswind. I prefer the clasp style, however, I heard they don't work so well and the simple tang buckle is a better option. Comments?

gotta agree with the others deployant wins hands down every single time. IMO the only reason to buy a tang buckle is if you were buying gold. cuz the cost difference between the 2 is enough to break your budget

My vote is for the tang! I realize the strap will last longer on the deployant. I realize the deployant is "infinitely" adjustable. I just don't like the Breitling deployant buckle. For some reason, it just doesn't feel right to me. On the other hand, the tang buckle I have is great. I have both with multiple straps and think it is a personal choice and you can't go wrong with either.

I love the convenience of the deployant but sometimes it digs into my wrist. The deployant keeps the watch more stable one the wrist and prevents the watch from rotating around if you wear your strap, I won't even say loose, at a comfortable setting.

Folding clasp for reasons other have stated plus this: The other night after a few drinks, I was taking my SF off. It was on my black calf with tang. I bent over rested the watch upside down on my bent leg and released the buckle. It fell straight to the floor  Lucky for me it was thick carpet and only about 1.5 feet. If it had been shoulder/elbow height on tile I hate to think what might have happened. With the folding clasp (deployant) you have a "loop" that has to be wragled over your hand. Much harder to let it slip IMO.

clasp is amazing in its own right. beautifully crafted and perfect ergonomics that make for a perfect fit. has a ratchet feature that allows for micro adjustment with the push of a button to expand or just click to collapse. bit expensive compared to the buckle but if you can afford the watch the clasp is a drop in the bucket.

it's funny but i almost like looking at my clasp as much as the watch it is fitted to.

I think that you are referring to the Ocean Racer style clasp rather than the leather deployant.

I only have one Breitling deployment on a croco strap, but in my opinion it's outstanding. It really makes the watch head sit still on the wrist.

I personally prefer the comfort of the pin buckle, but for the very reason rplace mentioned above I have deployants on both my Navitimers.

For me the most comfortable strap I've ever owned is the original Ocean Racer on the new style deployant clasp which I wear on my Chrono Avenger, the most comfortable combo I own!
