I have found a few ebay deals and am a bit wary of bidding. Particularly a navi heritage being bidded on around the low 2000 range. Has anyone purchased a authentic breitling through ebay? What are the red flags to look for besides feedback? Has anyone ever received a fake that was claim to be authentic and what steps did you have to take with ebay to fix the situation? Any other feedback and advice is appreciated.

I've bought quite a few through ebay so far without any problems. There are shady sellers out there and you have to be careful to check the sellers feedback and it's also nice to note if the seller is experienced in watch sales or does he mostly sell baby strollers. :) Check the number of sales he has had. Check the feedback % score. Check if shipping costs are reasonable. Check if returns are allowed. Check the fine print of his listing. Ask the seller questions about the item and see if he is responsive.

But above all post a picture in the replica section before you buy and let the guys take a look at it if you are in any way in doubt or feel you don't have enough experience.

Honestly, I'm not an Ebay Person by any means.

I feel as though every time I sell something...it is taken over by scammers. Then when I look to buy I don't know how well I can trust what I am buying. I use ebay as a tool for determining somethings worth or purely for searching entertainment when bored.

I prefer all transactions face-to-face...and if I can't do that.... then Oh well!

Better safe than sorry!

I have thousands on transactions on ebay with very little problems, and bought many watches including my Super Avenger.

My advice is simple and short... stick to the US and buy the seller first. If the seller checks out golden then you have very little to worry about. The best sellers also do business off ebay so they're pretty easy to locate. Lastly make sure the watch is fully insured because all a seller needs for Paypal is to supply a tracking number.


PS... I bought a Tag and my Blackbird by finding the seller on Ebay, but then contacting them and doing a deal with their regular business... in this case it was a jewelry store in Miami. I did this because it saves them the ebay fee and they cut me a better deal.

I have done a lot of transactions through eBay, as long as you educate yourself then you are fine. I have also had a lot of success with non US sellers - heck I am one! Bought a high value watch from Turkey last year - no issues at all.

Thanks for the info. So I guess to feels safe I could stick with someone who specializes in watches. One that I'm looking at has a physical location in the U.S.

So is 3500 a good price for a mint old navitimer II on a navi bracelet?

I've bought and sold many watches from all over the world on eBay. Never had a single problem.

Best advise I ever read was "Buy the seller, then buy the watch." Stick to that and you should be OK.

Only caveat in buying from overseas is watch out for customs duty which can add considerably to the price you pay.

Hi,
I like to look at the eBay Breitling listings for fun with my morning coffee. I just came upon this and thought I'd share.

This jewelery company had this Breitlin listed for about 10 days:

The following add is an individual and just listed... and they stole the images from the Jewelery store listing. I contact them to inform them of the thief.

Ebay is a good source of deals. But be careful. As they say "Buy the Seller, not the watch".

For me, I deal with only watch/jewelery stores, I contact them by phone and ask questions, I look at the feedback. THEN I buy

The private seller actually has more pics of the watch than the jewelry store. I wonder if it might be the other way around? :)

Good point. But I was able to match the pictures up one to one. But the store had their listing out longer. It's this sort of thing that makes me nervous about ebay.

Doesn't quite make sense to me then. How would the private seller have more pictures of the watch than that of the jewelry store? He couldn't have stolen the pictures from the jewelry store auction and the extra pictures to me appear to be of the same watch. Hmmmmm. The games afoot my dear Watson. :D

Not sure myself. I thought he may have found them somewhere else or maybe taken one of the other shots and edited it? Not sure, but let eBay work out the details.

I bought and sold multiple watches on eBay.

Most of my transactions were problem-free, couple times I had issues with condition of vintage watches and one time I bought fake Breitling.

When dealing on eBay - I recommend you use PayPal and pay with your credit card. PayPal by default will try to force you to use your bank account - make sure you select credit card when setting up the payment. I have a rule that I never send cash or check, unless I know the seller and can check his references with other watch collectors.

PayPal has buyer protection process, in addition I like to have back-up protection from my credit card. I find American Express to be the best when handling the disputes.

As I said - I've had one really bad experience when someone sold me fake Breitling Evolution. I posted pics on WUS forum and was told the watch was bad. I sent the watch back, seller refused to give my money back, so I went through dispute with eBay, which didn't result in positive outcome. Eventually I had my credit card to handle the dispute. In the end received my payment back, although it took almost 3 months.

As someone said - do your research, get as much info on the seller as you can, talk to him, make sure you are comfortable. You can also post photos of the watch on this forum and other watch forums - community here is great in evaluating authenticity of the watch.

If you have slightest doubt - move on, there is going to be another watch, most Breitling watches are not rare. It's better be safe than sorry :)
