Post subject:  Weird Issue with my SuperOcean

Don't know if this is a common issue but just wanted to share my experience. I purchased an SO at the duty free shop in Montego Bay last June during my summer vacation. Brought the watch home and after a couple of weeks the watch started to stop on me for no particular reason. I thought it was perhaps that it lost it's reserves but i wound the watch and it would stop in it's tracks once again.

I decided to take my watch to my local AD to see what was going on. He re-lubed my watch and said he couldn't find anything defective that would cause it to stop. Brought it home and within two weeks it stopped again. This time my AD changed some parts (not too sure which one) but said that should do the trick but it didn't.. stopped once again.

The technican was intrigued as I was because he could not isolate the underlying cause of the stoppage. He decided to take the watch apart one more time and go through each piece with a fine tooth comb and finally discovered that the mainspring was not the proper part for this particular watch. It was 1mm too thick for the SO. When the mainspring would be fully wound, it would touch another part of the watch, thus making the watch stop.

Not too sure if anyone else had this experience but I am glad that he identified the root cause as I was getting tired of traveling downtown so often. At any rate, I can tell you now that my SO is running spot on and hasn't had an issue since the repair.

Too bad now I have to wait for my Chronomat 01 Limited to be repaired. Had this bad boy for three weeks before it exhibited it's issues. Oh well, back to my downtown travels once again.

Wow, you've had some shocking luck with Breitlings. It's certainly not run of the mill.

The bright side is my Steel Fish is running smooth and dead accurate.
