Holes in certificate?

So the yellow certificate that comes with the new watch, what is the deal with the holes in it. They represent a number, but it does not seem to be my serial number or the reference number of the watch.

They're speed holes. They makes the certificate go faster....

I think the holes you're referring to spell out the AD name and your watch serial numnber. If the serial number on the certificate and the watch don't match, that's not good. Might mean the watch is of questionable authenticity. Post a picture and we'll be sure to help out!

I went and checked my 'holes' on my latest COSC certificate. They don't match the serial number, should be normal. The cert. has the serial # typed out in a white box area. The punched holes may be some type of COSC cert. 'issue' number or have some other meaning, I don't know. Someone should chime in with an explanation. No worries though I believe.

Correct. The holes DO NOT match anything on the watch. I haven't yet heard a good explanation as to what they are. Some internal Breitling thing I would imagine.

So my watch has a number stamped into the back that is very close to the reference number of the watch on the Breitling site. Number on watch is A17390; while the number on site is A1739010|C666|134A. From what I gather, please correct me if wrong, the site numbers are watch|dial|band. The REF numbers on my warranty cert are A1739010/C666 while the Serial No (on warranty cert) matches what is not stamped but sort of etched on my watch as well as what is on the COCS cert.

Holes are punched into both the warranty card and COCS cert but don't match and don't seem to be related to anything on the watch or web site. FWIW, warranty card also has country and retailer's name punched in holes....but it is rather obvious what those are for :wink:

Perhaps the 10 at the end of the web site numbers as in A17390"10" indicates the year???

Even more puzzling is my hand written receipt from AD stating both 664409 and BRE0600935. I have no idea what those are unless some inventory number for them.

Whoops! :oops: Sorry guys. Don't have one in front of me. Could have sworn they matched! Sounds like you're all good OP!

I should have just stuck with the "speed holes" comment.

Here's what I know (I think):

A1739010/C666/134A

A = case material
17 = caliber
3 = COSC certified (0=not certified)
90 = model #
10 = bezel/case finish

C = dial color
666 = dial design

134A = bracelet or strap config.

Hope this helps. Oh, the manufacture date is stamped between the 6:00 lugs in format: XXYY
where xx = week # and YY = year. There also may be a letter and number following for dial color code.

Lots of cross discussions happening here.

COSC has Breitling reference punched in it - likely the COSC certification number that COSC issues to Breitling

Warranty has AD name punched in it.

Agree lots of different things being talked about. Probably due to the fact that I am new to all of this. Initially I was wondering if the numbers punched on my COSC should in some way match something on my watch. That just seems to make sense on the surface. Then I looked at the waranty card and it has numbers punched in it. These are different from the COSC numbers AND don't match the watch, again more confusion (effing new guy :wink: ). But I think all my concerns were unwarranted. If I am getting all this correctly the punched numbers on both the COSC and warranty card are of no concern. The serial number on the watch and COSC match so I guess I am all set.

Great info from Kodiak on the break down of the reference numbers. Thanks!
