Post subject:  Info/History about Shadow Flyback?

Hi all!

I have come into possession of a -00 Windrider Shadow Flyback b35312. It was in terrible condition when I bought it (scratched beyond belief), but after a full service and polish it looks and works as brand new.

This is the one (not mine, but the exact same model and appearance, will post a pic of mine ASAP):

I am curious about the history of this model. Apparently it was discontinued after -02, after being sold for only two years. What happened? How does it compare with, for instance, the Chronomat or other similar Breitling pieces?

...and also: What could it be worth if I found the right buyer?

Many thanks for any info on this!

Regards,

Goran

It is similar to a Chronomat of the era in terms of weight and size.
Main differences are:
Movement is B35 instead of B13, so subdials are placed more symetrically. Shorter maximum time on the chronograph. Flyback function.
Crown is pushdown and not screw down.
Bezel is bi-directional, not uni-directional.
Crystal is flat instead of domed in profile.

Hi, the Shadow Flyback is a nice watch, if a little on the small side. It runs the B35 calibre which is based on the ETA 2892-A2, which is a nice smooth movement, and utilises the flyback mechanism which is quite a nice minor complication to have.

I'm not sure why it was discontinued after only two years. I guess (and I don't have my old catalogues to hand at the moment) that it probably cost a little more than the comparable Chronomat at the time, despite being of similar size and appearance (save for the dial layout). I assume this made it less popular and hence was discontinued. This is just a guess of course, as Breitling never specifically say why models are discontinued, but you can be sure it was to do with popularity and hence sales figures.

In terms of value, question 2 on the FAQ should help -
