Hi Guys - I have been stuck on this for awhile! I love the look of the SuperAvenger but I talk myself out of buying one because I hesitate to spend over $3000 on a massive watch that I am not sure is a "daily wearer". Two question: is the Super Avenger as "popular" as it was a few years ago? Are big watches (over 44mm) here to stay or is this a fad? Some might say, if you haven't pulled the trigger on the SA yet it isn't the watch for you....it should "speak to you"....with that said, I don't think it's that I don't love the watch, its more that with money being a factor I just wonder if I would rather spend it on something that is more practical (for lack of a better word)

Thanks

Dont worry, the first one is always tough to swallow. Its gets much, much easier.

I think you should get the watch if you like it. It sounds to me like you do, so settling for a different model might only leave you wishing you bought the other one. If you havent already checked out the Avenger, I suggest that you do so. Its almost identical to the Super Avenger, just a couple of mm smaller.

I think the large watch (biger than 44mm) are somewhat of a fad, but they are extremely popular. There are an awfull lot of fellas with big gorrilla wrists that until this trend, were unable to buy a luxury time piece that actually fit thier wirst. I think there will always be a desire from this customer base and for the "hey look at my big ass watch" crowd.

I owned a Super Avenger for a while. It fit my 7 1/2" wrist perfectly, but the weight bothered me A LOT. I couldn't get used to the weight (compared with the rest of the collection) and the shear size is prohibiting for button sleaved shirts. Great looking watch and a definite attension getter(which I don't like).

In the end, the large watches are here to stay (for a while) but YOU need to slap one on the wrist and walk arounnd in the store with it. Buy it for YOU, not to show off to anyone else. A SA has a distinct market, as noted above, as does a 36mm Rolex (dwarves and women).

Oh, and FYI a pre-owned SA can save you a pretty good amout of money. RJ is right about the regular Avenger. Looks the same, just smaller and probably more practical for everyday use.

I just recently was in the same situation.. I had been wanting the SA for some time but never pulled the trigger.... well i recently did... and boy am i glad i did... I absolutely love it... I am 6'5 so the i've always liked bigger watches... so if you really do love them, as i did.. You cant go wrong.. they're beautiful watches.... but you are correct in saying that it isnt a daily wearer...... I knew before i bought mine that i wouldnt be wearing it much only for when i was going out with friends and in real casual situations... I am currently looking into getting another breitling that i can make an everyday wearer... probably a steelfish..... due to price and toughness and i just love the dial...

Any doubts re the Super Avenger are mostly re the size of it..... 48mm if you have any doubts go to an AD and try one on........if it overlaps your wrist it will look ungainley.....if it fits on the wrist then don't hesitate........never had mine off except for cleaning fabbo piece...

you must fancy one :uplaugh: to be asking ..........all others seem low league after a SA

This is JMO... I personally do like the SAs however I believe they are one of the most replicated models and they are very popular and I happen to see them out quite a bit along with the bentleys. Do I think they are a fad? I don't think the size is the fad! But more of the SA itself. Doesn't mean I wouldn't mine getting one myself on a rubber strap with a deployment clasp! But the SA on a bracelet....dime a dozen

JMO though, but take your time and try them on. Something I always tell myself... Go try it on and then wait a few weeks and then decide. If you still love it, get it! If this is your first Ling, the SA may be overwhelming at first? When I first tried it on I was like NO WAY! However after wearing my Chronomat for almost two years then going back to my AD! I tried it on and could def pull it off. The size kinda grows on you in a weird way and you get used to it!

I have one, and think it depends on your wrist size, and what you do from day to day. For something like an office job 44mm would be much better suited, at least for my 7.5" wrist. But for an impressive watch to just grab a few times a week the SA is great. If i could make both my Blackbird and SA 46mm I'd probably do it.

I think the SA is a very versatile watch and can be used as a daily wearer. So it's big but with different strap combos it can be worn in a variety of situations. Throw on a crock strap for more dressy, leave it on metal for that sporty/casual look and depending on dial color could be worn with a suit or even put it on rubber for the true diver watch feel. It's a great watch and it will seem huge on you but once you wear it for a while every other watch is going to look small in comparison!

This is one of my issues with the watch. It looks huge on my 6.5" wrist, but I still love the look. The weight, however, still bothers me, my watch weighs 8.4 ounces even with every removable link taken out.

Haha, this made me laugh. After wearing Breitlings for a while, I can't see myself wearing a watch that small again.

Back on topic: besides the weight issue, there is the concern about wearing a polished watch on a daily basis. My brushed titanium Chrono Avenger looks nearly new after 3 years of daily wear followed by 4 years worn in rotation with others. In contrast, my Super Avenger is only worn on weekends, I've had it for about 4 months and it shows numerous light scuffs and hairlines. I feel OK about it knowing that they can, for the most part, be polished out, but it just amazes me that a watch can get so scratched up with minimal wrist time.

For me, the weight and worry about scratching the polished surfaces has relegated the SA to weekend duty - this, however, doesn't really sit well with me as I love my watches and like to wear them all the time. Because of this, I've been considering selling the SA, but every time I look at it, I change my mind.

Bottom line: a beautiful watch, but one that (IMHO) is not suited for daily wear.

RJ is right the initial shock of spending the money will wear off pretty quick. The only thing anyone can say is, if you love it than its for you. There is no harm in waiting a bit and seeing how much you really like the watch. if you end up thinking about the SA everyday and cant seem to live without it, then its probably the watch for you.

Personally i own one and i love it. i do believe its more of a casual everyday watch, but then again i dont wear a suit so it works for me.
