Post subject:  Deployant Strap Fit
I ordered my latest watch on a calf with a deployant. I love the convenience of it but I'm not sure if I like the way it fits. It doesn't hug my wrist the way a tang buckle does. I'm not sure if it needs to be broken in more to fit properly. When I make it tighter to get rid of the gaps the top to the deployant digs into the bottom of my wrist. Take a look at the following photo and let me know if this is the way my strap should fit. Also, which do you guys think is more comfortable, a tang buckle or deployant?

By the way, the watch is snug not loose as the photo suggests.

Im not sure thats installed right, take it off and take a pic. but they are more comfortable, but need to break in

It's installed OK, I would tighten it up a bit from what is shown in your 1st photo if you can. Mine was the same in the beginning but it will soften up over time and fit better and feel alot more comfortable.

I had the same question when I got mine, here is the post below along with a photo of how it fit brand new, it is MUCH better now.

Thanks sparwood. What does your strap look like now. Did it mold closer to the wrist over time? I'm having an issue with the watch fitting neatly under my cuff since it sticks out so much. When I make it tighter the gap gets smaller but the deployant digs into my wrist.

I would say the gap is about 1/3 of that, I will send you a couple of photos on Monday, I'm out of town until then. I would say it took a couple of months for it to start feeling comfortable, no problem with it fitting under the cuff of most of my dress shirts now, I have a couple that are a bit tight and won't allow the watch to fit under them.

I know, there are a couple of threads here on some suggestions on how to break it in faster by folding each half over on itself, I was scared of cracking the surface of mine so I just wore it, actually I think I even wore it to bed for the first while :)

Just needs wearing in Peter then adjust as you go.

Do NOT force it by bending it as after the outer leather tears you will have £110 of broken strap to take out.

Give it time.

it will break in in about 10 days of wear is what i have found, the smaller the wrist the more time i think.

Peter,

I've had the same question about the deployant on my Navi 01. The gap on my strap isn't nearly as large as yours, but it still doesn't hug my wrist as I expected. I've tried the "rolling" trick to break it in and found it doesn't have much of an effect. I'm going to give it a while longer to break in, but I may go with a tang the next time around. I'm not convinced these Breitling deployants are all people have made them out to be . . .

It's worth noting I have the croc strap and it's also the "short" version, which is 10mm shorter than the standard.

The Crocs are 'tougher' to wear in than the Cuir.

Funny that you say that Alan. I have a calf and 2 croco straps (all deploy) and the croco straps broke in quicker than the calf. I agree that they are uncomfortable at first, but once broken in are very nice. The deployment still digs into the bottoms of my wrist a little, but that is mostly because I like my watches fairly tight.

I do break in new straps - gently bending the strap over my thumb. I ccan't wear the deploy - it just won't work with my small wrists. I get short tangs and put them on after market bifold deploys. Works great and fits just right form day one.

I think you'd be alright with Breitling's short deployant. My wrist is about 6 1/4 and I didn't have to cut the strap at all. Granted, it's tight enough that the strap meets the deployant hinge right now. Any tighter and I would need to cut a little off the strap.
