I understand that there are a hundred of cleaning threads...but not sure if there is one on this:

Can you use the Cape Cod Cloth too much where it would hurt or even ruin the finish on your watch?

The cloths work by removing small amounts of metal with each use. So the answer is yes. I'm not sure exactly how much use would be required to do damage but consider the use of a Cape Cod on a brushed surface, it really doesn't take that much to convert it to polished.

I belive it can. It is just like a sand paper for watches and jewelry. If it was used on a area for a prolonged time it would leave a worn spot. I would say the main problem in using it would be over rounding corners. Ie edges of links, edges of bezels, screw heads. Etc.

Cape Cods are not for cleaning - they are for polishing, big difference!

Over time they can change the dimensions / shape of the watch, but if you are only polishing the watch every month or two it's not a practical problem.

Clean or scratch free? A Cape Cod or Sunshine will remove scratches. What you are probably using is a simple micro-fiber cloth (same as you would use on a pair of eyeglasses), which is my preferred way to remove oils and shine the watch. I don't shower with a watch on, rather moisten part of a micro fiber cloth in hot water, wipe down the watch, then dry/shine with a clean, dry micro fiber.

:yeahthat Over the years I've opened far too many watch cases only to find a movement destroyed by water intrusion. I just don't get any watch near water, period! I know how proud we are of our 'lings, but it's not worth the risk to subject it to possible water damage.

The same advice goes for shock, especially if you are left handed like me. Take the watch off before using a hammer, etc. I know these are shock resistant, but exposing it to repeated shock doesn't help it. There is a limit to how much inertial moment it can stand. :wowzers
