Hi,
I'm new to this site. I found it while researching Breitling watches. My dilemma is I can't make up my mind between a preowned Black Volcano Breitling SOH 125th Annv (2010), and a preowned Rolex Submariner (2007). Both are mint condition, have original boxes/papers and both are priced mid $3K. Can some of you watch enthusiast please chime in and help me decide? They're both handsome watches; but which would hold value in your opinion?

Thank you,
Ryan

You must be eager to have this question answered; I see you've posted it in just about every forum.lol. I have the SOHC LE 125th Annv and I really enjoy it. These watches are drastically different and very difficult to compare. Do you like larger dial watches, smaller dials, in house movements, chronographs, strap options, etc. Tough question to answer but I'd go with the Breitling over that specific Sub. :lingsrock:

Thanks Sergio. I'm trying to familiarize myself on how to use the forum site. I posted twice on "buy/sell/trade" section in error. I was able to introduced myself in "Introduction" section and finally posted in Breitling General Discussion section.

Is the SOH much larger than the Rolex Sub? I know the Sub has that classic look, but the SOH looks refined. As far as resale value, in your opinion would the SOH hold value compare to a Rolex?

Thanks for your time.
Ryan

I'm not 100% sure but I think you are talking about the SOHC Limited Edition 125th Anniversary right? Yes the SOHC LE is much larger than the Sub. The SOHC is 46mm while the Sub is 40mm; there is a noticible difference in size.

As far as resale value, Rolex retains their value much better and I'm quite surprised that you found an 07' Sub for mid 3's.

Hi and welcome aboard, but can you not post duplicate threads in multiple forums please. If you post something in the wrong forum either delete it before posting a new thread please, or leave it and either Roff, Admin or myself will move it for you. It just means that everyone will reply to your question on the same thread which is much more useful than having various answers in different place.

I've deleted your duplicates so hopefully all your answers will be in one place now.

@Sergio: WOW! I really appreciate the picture. You can really tell the size difference when worn next to each other. I have a small wrist. The Rolex is actually asking $3700 and the SOH LE is asking $3200.

@Driver8: Thanks for cleaning up my mess. It won't happen again. I promise.

I'm sorry Sergio.

So knowing the asking price for those two awesome watches; in your expert opinion, which would you chose?

Ryan

I'm no expert, but I enjoy both my Rolex GMT (which is very similar to a SUB) and the SOHC 125th VERY MUCH!! Only you can choose, can't go wrong with either one, they're both great pieces.

It's apples and oranges, really. The differences have been outlined already: large vs. small, watch vs. chronograph, black dial vs. white, in-house movement vs. modifed ETA, etc. If it were me, I'd go with the Rolex, but I don't think that makes any difference in the price of tea in China, because it's based solely on personal preference; someone could just as easily side with the SO for similarly personal reasons. Then again, I'd take the 2010 redesign of the Sub (116610) over the older model (16610) any day of the week...but the new ones also go for twice as much as the asking price of the Sub you're looking at.

Also worth noting, Sergio's picture features the newer design case on the Rolex, which is the same one the newer Sub has. The Sub you're looking at will look even smaller next to the SO.

That's a good point. Not to sound alarmist, Ryan, but are you confident the Rolex is genuine?
