Before everyone jumps on me for not having the watch serviced, It just got back from a master watchmaker certified on Breitling who inspected the watch and said it is in excellent condition running at -1 sec/day. Actually you got awful advice.

Your watchmaker provided horrible advice, whether the watch was worn or not 17 year old watch oils provide zero lubrication. That watchmaker should be out of business.

I second that. I bought almost never worn Blackbird from 2002 (it was +1 sec a day) and got it serviced as soon as I got it, to be on the safe side.

My wachmaker said that there are almost no signs of wear inside but oil dryed out. If you want to enjoy that watch for years to come - just service it.

When I bought a "safe queen" piece my watch guy gave it fresh oil and gaskets. If it truly is unworn it shouldn't need anything else but it definitely needs fresh oil at the least. Technically speaking, I guess that would be called a service, though a limited one and certainly not an overhaul.

I would argue a clean as well to make sure all of the old oil is removed, but yes - it's essentially an 'oil and filter (gasket) change'.
