Post subject: | Steelfish White/Black |
I've been to three ADs and no one has a white dial Steelfish. I'm going to get one soon but, I'm can't decide between the white or black. I did try on the black and really like it but having not seen the white dial I'm still not ready. I did see a white dial colt, but I really don't like it that much, but thats the model not the dial. Anyways is the white a bright white or a cream color. Maybe I'll keep searching the closest AD with a white in stock is 2 hour trip one way and he only has a white steelfish for the moment. I would really like to hold them both and compair. Anyways what do you guys like. |

personally i think the steelfish is a sporty watch, i think the sporty goes well with a blue face. dressier watches work well with a white or black face. i dont think the steelfish is something you would be wearing with a suit and tie. lol |

I've owned both a first generation white (sliver/cream) dial Steelfish, and a second generation black dial Steelfish, and my personal take on it is that black is the only way to go on the Steelfish. I like white, black and blue dials in general, but the Steelfish benefits from the darker look IMHO. The concentric rings on the surface of the dial look great, but I personally found the way the light reflects it makes the white dial version harder to read. I also personally think that as a hardcore diver's watch, they look much better in the darker colours as it's more in keeping with the dive look. And yes the colour of the light dial is actually more ivory/cream than white. It's not a bright white like the SA. |

I had pondered that decision myself and came to this conclusion. The white dial looks great, very legible in most lighting situations but the black seems to really take it up a notch. With the large amount of chrome numerals and markers the black dial seems to take on a somewhat lighter shade in good light. Just can't beat the versatile black dial. |

I personally like white in that it can match anything and everything. Then again I would probably get a color which isnt in your watch wardrobe yet...next on my list in a croco with black face...navitimer anyone? ![]() |

I have the black dial Steelfish (on my wrist right now) and I really like it a lot. The contrast of the circle markers and the Breitling emblem against the black dial, looks fantastic. Not to meantion the way the light reflects off of the dial pattern. I have it on the Diver Pro rubber strap and the black strap really accents the black dial. Having said that.... I have a deployment clasp on its way for the shark skin strap (black) that I bought and I also have ordered the pro 2 bracelet, just to dress it up a little from time to time. I am not a big fan of the blue dial at all. Recently Lou posted a white dial Steelfish for sale and boy did I have to resist the urge.. It looked great in the pictures. The short and sweet of it will be what you think, in person and on your wrist. My AD had all three versions so I layed them all out to compare. Good luck. any of them is a good choice. |

I am also a huge fan of the Steelfish, especially given the price. Like others have said you really need to go and try them on for yourself. I think almost all Brietlings or any watch for that matter look great with black dials. It just goes well with everything. Like Broncosport, my AD had all three dial color choices. The black is great, but my previous watch had a black dial and I also thought it would be very popular and more common. I really didn't care for the silver/white dial. It was kind of plain and boring and difficult to read. Don't get me wrong, many Breitlings look awesome with a White dial. I just don't think the Steelfish is one of them. I actually really liked the Blue Dial. I am not a fan of all the Blue dials that Breitling makes. However, the Steelfish blue is a really nice deep dark blue and looks amazing in sunlight. Yes I did buy the Blue dial ![]() In the end, you really can't go wrong as long as you choose the one that's right for you. Best of luck. |

I bought s black one. It looks amazing, and generally has a blueish look to it because of the AR. Get the black and you get a 2 in 1. |

Post subject: | I have the white face |
I went through the same dilemma. I now have the white face Steelfish and I coudn't be happier that I went with the white/silver instead of black. In person, the white is beautiful, and depending on the light it looks silver and sometimes cream. The problem I had with the black was the visibility, if you tilt the watch a certain way, the polishing on the numerals reflects very dark, and with a dark on dark, it made for a dark watch. Also with the anti reflective coat, I noticed that at times the reflection of it on the black made it almost look like a blue, whereas on the white face it is much less noticeable for some reason. That's my two cents, but really you can't go wrong. Its a great watch, and you're going to love it either way. I will say that one more advantage to the white is that it "pops" with a nice tan, and you can easily dress it up or down. Cheers, and good luck. |
