Hi
I'm looking at getting back into another Breitling. I really like the big date BB but its a little expensive for me.
Am I right in thinking the Chronomat evo is the same case ?
I've found an evo with a black dial silver subs on black calf for £1500 here in the chilly UK. Apart from the subdial colour and small date would you guys consider this to be a good poormans Blackbird.
My previous Breitlings have been 39mm Chronomats including the Blackbird a Chrono Avenger and a Headwind. I found the Chronomats a little small on my 7.5 inch wrist.
Nice to see some pics if you have some.
Thanks

A Little small? I have the same wrist size(7.5") and I think it looks great. NOT SMALL AT ALL!

The original Chronomat seemed a little small. Not the Evo. Also my eye sight is worse now so a bigger watch should help.
Nice pics by the way.

The Blackbird is in the Windrider line and it shares the same case as the Chronomat (Evo). The Blackbird's case is completely brushed (although there are polished versions available) whereas the Chronomat has a brushed bezel and polished case. 43.7 mm diameter, with the curved lugs, etc... They also have different casebacks.

The bezel on the Blackbird is a bidirectional compass bezel whereas the Chronomat is the traditional unidirectional 60 minute. Both have screw down pushers and crowns. Chronomat runs the Valjoux 7750 and the Blackbird runs an ETA 2892 with a Big Date complication.

There are clearly a lot of similarities, but I think there is enough difference to consider them different beasts. I personally prefer the Blackbird because of the Big Date, smack dab at the 12 o'clock position. Really a well balanced dial. The Chronomat doesn''t appeal to me nearly as much.

Good luck with your decision!

All the info you'll ever need about these models:

Thanks!

I actually owned both. Originally the Blackbird than a year later I ran into a issue and traded in the BB for my current Chrono Evolution. I loved the BB and I love the CE.

IF I HAVE TO CHOOSE.... BB! But what I can tell you is that you will love either one as they are identical. The CE is slightly more blingy being that it is all polished vs. the BB. However, the BB faceted bracelet is AWESOME!

You can't go wrong here! Good luck and post some pics! :lingsrock:

Both, I have a CE now, and next year once Basel 11 announcements are out will get a BB.

I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but for those who don't know and might be confused when they see the watches in person, I'll point out that the brushed Blackbird is only brushed on the top surfaces; the sides are polished. The same goes for the bracelet.

:yeahthat

Which looks fine from any side, except when you look at the dial and see brushed surfaces, minus the crown/pushers. Damn my OCD like attention to detail.

Like Kanye said... I'm so gifted at findin' what I don't like the most.
