I wanted to know what the difference was between the Avenger and Skyland? I know they have stopped making the Skyland, but is there any real difference between these two?

I was also wanting to get one with a brushed steel strap, is this possible?

And roughly what I should be looking to pay for one of these, if anyone knows?

Thanks

The Avenger and the Skyland are very similar. The main differences are as follows:

-Avenger has the arabic numbers with a chrome/mirror finish. The numbers on the Skyland are white.
-Avenger has the added option of the batons on the dial, where the Skyland was with arabic numbers only.
-Avenger has the words "swiss made" on the dial at the bottom on the left and right side of 6 o'clock.

The case for both the Avenger and Skyland are polished, so IMO it would look odd to have a brushed bracelet with it. I would suggest looking at the Seawolf if you want a brushed bracelet.

John, I'm afraid ur info is incorrect. I have an avenger skyland with silver arabic number and "swiss made" printed on the dial, manufactured "4508-b5". week 45 year 2008
I know it is a rare skyland, cause all I've seen is with white arabic and white hands. But that's what is engraved between the lugs at 6 o'clock position.
I also asked once why all skylands are white hands and numbers and mine not, with no answers or they say that it is the "avenger" but it is a 2008 model.

Thank you both for your respones.

So is the Seawolf case the same as the Avenger case, and is it just the dial that is different?

I am actually buying the watch for my boyfriend, as a suprise gift, and he likes the skyland but would prefer a brushed bracelet as he thinks the polished look is too blingy for him.

Would it really look wrong to have a watch with a polished steel case and a brushed steel bracelet? And is it even possible to get a brushed steel bracelet for an Avenger?

Sorry so many questions, just want to get him the right watch that he will be really happy with.

Yours is probably one of the first produced.

SW case is 1mm thicker and SW isn't a Chrono (there is SW Chrono, but it is quartz).

It's not an option to have a brushed bracelet for the Avenger (it can be brushed aftermarket) and to me it wouldn't look wrong to have a brushed bracelet with polished head.

You have the Avenger, not the Skyland. Are you saying that your watch is the Skyland b/c the instruction manual has "Avenger Skyland" printed on it? Mine is the same way...I'm sure they had manuals printed that needed to be used and since the changes were cosmetic they just included the older manuals with it.

No, I'm saying it's a skyland because they changed the name in 2010 and my watch was made in 2008 when it was called skyland.
As Bnewbie said, it is one of the first to be produced.

The OP asked what the differences are between the Avenger and the Skyland...which I listed. I guess you were lucky to get a "rare" Skyland that had chromed arabic numbers on it.

Skyland only has white numbers, if they are silver you have a avenger with an old manual

Semantics. All arabic numbered Avengers look like your watch. Whether or not Breitling had publicly announced the new name at the time that yours was manufactured is of little importance.

Maybe your Skyland is so rare even Breitling don't know about it!
People are just answering the question you asked. The Avenger is still a fine watch, even if it has silver numbers.

Ho ho! very funny, we are here to learn, and in this case to figure out why my skyland has silver arabic numbers. Noone answered why my "avenger" was produced in 2008. So please read before making stupid jokes.

If that's correct, that all skylands have white numbers, I think that they used an old case for my watch.

I think the Skyland with painted numbers is a better way to go because it makes the watch far easier to read. There is no doubt the chrome/polished numbers look nice but in most lighting conditions they are a lot harder to read. I also think the White painted numbers give the watch a more purposeful, less dressy look.
With regard having the bracelet brushed I would say that's a bad idea, far better to consider strap options to remove some of the bling.

That's why all Breitling watches have double AR coating. I never had a problem with my skyland or any other breitling.
