All,

I did not wear my watch at all this past LONG weekend, as I was home for 5 days this Thanksgiving. This morning in my ride into work I was trying to adjust the time. I'm typically very cautious of this and I do not adjust the date using the quick date adjust. I thought I was adjusting the minutes and started to wind. I wa a bit distracted taking to my friends in the carpool and realized a second too late that there was some friction...meaning I was trying to adjust the time (I fear it was in the DO NOT ADJUST time frame of 8pm to 3am). Now winding my watch by the minute it seems to change the date at 3am instead of changing it at 12 am. Movement seems fine and it's kept time for over 1.5 hours, but playing around with it now it definitely changes time at 3am instead of 12am. Did I break my watch? Is there anything I can do? What should I do? Any advice is greatly appreciated. What a crappy way to end the long weekend.

Thanks,

Bob

Is it changing at 3am on every date or just today? If today then it likely is a bent tooth on the date wheel, if it's every day then there may have been some slippage of the mechanism. Either way it will need Breitling attention.

Thanks for the reply. What a crappy day alredy.

It seems to change at 3am on every day. I've had the watch for a year. Any idea if this is something that Breitling will cover under warranty? If not, any idea how much this may cost me?

If you don't admit to doing anything wrong then they'll probably treat as a warranty issue. Otherwise, parts cost is not high but it will be $300 for a basic service.

Bummer, man. I'm a little confused, though - do you mean you were accidentally trying to adjust the date?

On two occasions, I accidentally tried setting the date in the danger zone, because I thought the watch was showing AM time, rather than PM. I got lucky and didn't do any harm, but I learned to make sure that if the time is between 8 and 3, always move the time forward and see if the date changes before trying to adjust the date. Sounds like this is your practice anyway, though, and you just got distracted. I feel your pain.

Adjusting the time was exactly what I wanted to do. I never adjust the date because I'm afraid of not knowing if the watch stopped last at the am or pm mark and am afraid of it falling in the danger zone. So I wanted to adjust the date using the time...does that make sense? Instead I adjusted the date by itself. What crap.

Also, since this is my first time sending it in for service can someone provide me some guidance on how to do that?

Phone up BUSA and tell them that you are sending it and then package it up with the warranty and send it in with the appropriate tracking / insurance. You can also take it to an AD and they'll send it for you.

Makes perfect sense; that's what I do too. I just asked because in your post, you said you were setting the time by mistake, not the date; I figured that might be a typo. I'll only use the quick set if the watch is running, and I know it's not in the danger zone - say at the end of a 30-day month.

I don't mind doing either. Will the AD charge me for the shipping and insurance? Is one way faster than another?

AD won't charge you, there shouldn't be any difference in speed, but it depends on whether the AD sits on it.
