I believe at one time Breitling said the "best seller" was the Chronomat Evoloution...it seems just based on the posts I would say the Steelfish might have closed the gap. Do you agree with that? I love the look of the Steelfish! Do the folks that bought the Steelfish tend to buy it MAINLY because they love the look (which I know they do obviously) or because they have a budget and the Steelfish wins based on the choices in that price range? In other words, if you weren't talking about 2k more would most still buy the Steelfish or choose something like the Chronomat? My AD said his personal preference is the Steelfish regardless of price...just curious what you guys thought.

I don't like the arabics for the most part when I compare them to the baton dial on the Chronomat.

Chronomat all the way for me.

I know the Chronomat has sold the most models over the history of the company, but that might just be because the Chronomat has been available for decades. I don't know about the Chronomat Evo being the best seller, I thought I had heard Chronomat (as a generalization)..

As for me I definitely prefer the Chronomat. The Steelfish is cool, but I see it as a casual, weekend diver for the lake. The Chronomat on the other hand has the ability to be a daily casual or dress wearer..

I don't know about most popular, but a few AD's have told me that the Super Avenger is Breitling's current best seller, and has been for a while.. Just sayin.. :yeahthat

i bought the steelfish just because i loved the white dial, not because of the price!

My dreamwatch is the navitimer with leather strap and i just saved a couple of months and got it!!!!!

If you like a watch you will get it after some time, no matter what price it has...

But thats my opinion.

I don't think a Chronomat - Steelfish comparison is really fair. They are two very different watches for different purposes. Aside from chrono/non chrono, the Chronomat is dressier and the Steelfish more casual. Chronomat more elegant, Steelfish more burly. Five row blingy Pilot bracelet versus 3 row toolish Pro II. I like them equally well for their distinct purposes.

There is only one solution here - buy both :lingsrock:

(How's THAT for promotion Marie? I love the smell of Reno in the morning. It smells like victory!)

I have both and bought each of them for a different reason . I love the way my Chronomat shines when I wear it for formal or casual occasions and I love the rugged good looks of my Steelfish when I am working or at the gym . The brushed finish of the Steelfish is better suited to work .

Breitling don't release sales numbers so there is no hard evidence. Anecdotally ADs have long said that the Chronomat / Evolution is the biggest seller, although obviously individual stores / markets are driven by their own demographics that may skew that. That may not be true among a group like this, but we aren't representative of the market as a whole - most people will only buy one 'good' watch.

I second that, although for me, the Blackbird is even more definitively Breitling. Given the different movement in the latest generation BB, is it even considered a Chronomat anymore, or just another variation of the Windrider line?

It's simply a Blackbird. Even though the case is identical to the Chronomat.

:yeahthat

Very different indeed but they complement each other.

When I was looking for a rugged watch (I could not use my Chronomat on croco at the gym or for scuba diving for example), I hesitated a lot between the Steelfish and the Seawolf but finally the Fish won.

And you're absolutely right Shark, the best solution is to have both.
