Breitling calls the grey dial (with silver subdials) for the Chronomat "Anthracite." The grey Chrono dial is a medium, flat grey with a completely matte finish. I did some looking around, and found out anthracite is actually a very pure form of coal that is black and quite shiny. I can see why Breitling didn't want to call their dial "Dull Grey," but calling it Anthracite just seems wrong, if not misleading*.

Edit: *Given the information that has followed in this thread, I retract the term "misleading." :)

Touché.

I guess my point is, it seems silly of Breitling to use highfalutin words to describe their dials when the words they use don't even match the physical characteristics of the dial - like someone who tries to use big words to impress people, but gets them wrong and just shows everyone what a dumbass he is. But maybe that's just me.

Sorry Jack-son!

Mr. Clean, a co-worker comes over to my desk periodically during break to show me the latest Youtube video he found and insists I watch it. That was one of them. The latest is the bedroom intruder.

So, I'm guessing that since, out of all the replies, not one of them actually addresses the issue I raised, this really isn't anything that frosts anybody's corn flakes?

Nope, I don't see the issue. It's just marketing.

Why do you think they call purple, amethyst? Why do they call green, emerald? Because they sound better and more interesting.

The good old marketing department. Can't live with them and not allowed to shoot them. :guns:

Emeralds are green; amethysts are purple. Anthracite is shiny and black, not mat grey. Using a fancy term accurately to dress up a description is one thing. I just don't understand why Breitling uses the term anthracite to describe a dial that looks nothing like anthracite.
