just bought my first ling 3 weeks ago. a chronomat with rose gold ss and roman dials on a brown croc strap.
Any body here knows the quality on the caliber on my watch? how long will it last? And is it really that important to have it maintained for service every 2 years? and full service at 5?
Also i was wondering about the croc strap. Can i swim with it? how long will it last if i dont use it in water? And how long if?
im kinda happy that i choose the chronomat over rolex yachtmaster, because i like the design of my ling better, but im not sure if the quality on the movement is as good.

Anyways i changed my strap yesterday to a black plastic ling strap. Looks ok, but i would much rather have the croc on. but im leaving for africa on saturday so i will not risk my croc strap to saltwater and chlorin :)

If you swim with the Croco strap it will deteriorate. Get the proper ROSE GOLD and SS BRACELET designed for that model and you won't have to worry about this AND you will be closer to the FULL LING !

Congratulations on the Chronomat!

The Chronomat uses the caliber 13 movement. As acceldebt says, don't wear your croco in water. Any leather strap (calf, buffalo, croco, shark) will wear very quickly in water, leading to an expensive change. For water activities it's better to either have the watch on a bracelet or the rubber strap, or to remove the watch before taking a swim.

Regarding servicing, it's of course wise to do a service/overhaul every now and then. After all, you've spent a few bucks on the watch, so why not spend a tiny bit of that on service to ensure maximum joy of your purchase. However, my personal opinion is that the recommended service intervals might be a little tight. Personally I prefer to send my watches in every 5th year or so, and at occasions in between if necessary. So far it hasn't been necessary...
