As one who just recently unloaded a Chrono Evo with an Anthracite (grey) dial, I can give you my thoughts on it. I found the grey hopelessly boring. I tried to like it, but I just couldn't. In some lights, the dial looked more graphite hued, and was fairly nice, but in direct light, it just washed out. I liked the Arabic numerals; they added a bit of flash and interest to the dial, but there is a black dial that has them, and is better looking, in my opinion.

As for the watch itself, the current Chronomat is nice, but fairly big and heavy. Depending on the size of your wrists and general build, it could be fine, or it could be too big. On my 6.5 inch wrist, it was a little too big and heavy. In my opinion, the problem has more to do with thickness rather than diameter; the watch sits up very high. But for some people it works. And there's no doubt that the full polish of the case and bracelet definitely is eye catching, in a good way. If I were to get any Chronomat (not including the 01 or Blackbird), it would probably be the black with Roman numerals, but I can think of any number of dials I would prefer over the grey. Just my .02.

I don't have much experience with the Navitimer, but a variant I tried on the other day (Montbrillant Olympus) was much lighter and more comfortable than the Chronomat. The basic Navi might be even lighter, and has a slightly smaller diameter. Personally, I think Navi dials are a bit busy, but the cases are nice and fit me right. On leather, they have a certain cachet that is undeniable.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your "in dept" opinion. I like it when people give me there thoughts on what does and does look good, I personally love the grey slate dial, but havent experienced it for real so I don't know what the light does to it. I'm not having the 01 Chrono, it would be the previous Chrono Evo, I think I'm gonna go for the Chrono Evo, just the dial colour which is going to be hard to choose, my local AD said they can order in ANY to look at :D so I'm going to do just that. The size and weight for me personally is not an issue seen as I'm normally used to an Airwolf or Breitling for Bentley motors which is huge! and also the SA not to forget. With me having the Bentley with a Black Dial, are there any "brighter" dials for the Chronomat which you think look good? also I will be having it with Batons.

Cheers mate!

I would go with the slate dial Evo. One look at Ron's pics would seal the deal for you. I had the graphite dial Evo and really liked it, but I like the contrast of the subdials on the slate model.

Dino, when you said you were going for the grey dial, I thought you meant the plain grey, which Breitling calls Anthracite. That's the lighter grey with silver subdials and Arabic numerals. It was about that dial that I was commenting. The slate grey is a different animal. I have not seen it in person, but the pics of it suggest I would like it better than the Anthracite. The dial appears slightly darker than Anthracite, it's got a spiral pattern, and of course the subdials and outer tachymetre rim are black. And as you said, it has batons, not Arabics. So, I guess you should disregard my comments about the color. My comments about size and weight still stand, but it seems you know you're OK with it, so no biggie. I also think the graphite dial looks nice. It is darker than the slate grey, but is uniform in color throughout, including subdials and tachymetre. Also, it is the only Chronomat dial to have the word "Automatic" in red. Whichever one you go with, I imagine you'll be pleased, especially since your AD will order anything for your approval prior to purchase. You can't be that.

Enjoy your decision and purchase.

Yes I think the graphite dial with the black tachimetre is a different bread to the "grey dial" I'm going to order in both Dials to see which one I prefere I personally think after seeing Rons pics of his chrono evo I with probably go with the Graphite. Its got a lot more deapth to it and the "gioshea" patterning on the dial looks amazing! I'm sorry if I spelt that incorrect.

The Navitimer is a timeless classic, but it is not as practical as the Evolution. I was really considering a Navitimer until I tried one on. It was too small on my wrist, and the dial was hard to read. I bought the Navi-World on a bracelet instead.

The Evolution is practical for everyday wear. It's water resistance is much better than the Navitimer, and the Evo is a little larger on the wrist. The dial is not as busy, and is much easier to read.

If it were between these two, I would choose the Evolution on a bracelet.

:yeahthat
In the end, so would I, despite what I said about the Chrono's weight. It's still a great watch. And the polished Pilot bracelet is seriously nice. The Chronomat offers some serious wrist presence. Personally, I think it's a little big for me, but if it were between that and the standard Navi, I would go with the Chronomat...just not in Anthracite.

Cheers Guys!! My desision is finally come to an end!! I'm going for the Chronomat Evolution with the slate grey dial!!! :D I can't wait, just need to wait for Pay Day, then its mine!! :D whooooo Thank you guys for helping me to make the desision. The weight of the Chrono Evo doesnt bother me, I love Heavy watches and big watches I actually thought at one point "Is the Chrono Evo to small?" but now im certain its going to be the most perfect watch possible :D

Cheers you guys!
