Post subject:  Airwolf Raven - still available?

I was "browsing" Ebay earlier when I came across an Airwolf Raven which really caught my eye.

I'm not really in the market for another watch right now, so I was wondering if you guys thought this might be available for another year or so? I'd also like to get to try one on at some point since I have incredibly tiny wrists and I think this might utterly dwarf them, but I can't get the style out of my head. I love the multi-purpose nature of it and the fact that it has the digital watch on there, too... I ran a search and read the reviews of the guys who had them already, and didn't find anything to put me off, but I'm curious as to what people think about availability and how people who've had them for a while feel about them now.

Are there any other styles similar to this which I might have missed?

The Raven just a regular Airwolf, but with a black rubberized bezel instead of the brushed stainless steel bezel. Other similar watches are the Aerospace (smaller, titanium, and maybe better suited to your wrist), and the discontinued B-1.

If its your style of watch, I dont think youll have any problems with it. Everybody who owns one of the above seems to love them.

Hi,

the regular Airwolf is discontinued by now, the Raven replaces it... I like the "regular" a lot more, so, if you happen to find it in a store you should consider comparing them. It may also be especialy discounted.
I have small wrists and like it a lot, but it is a close call in my case. Really the maximum "possible". So you should try it on.
(I sometimes even think it's my favourite ATM. Is that me saying that about a quartz watch? :wowzers )

If it's too large then the Aerospace is an option, although IMO inferior.

I would also recommend the Aerospace model, smaller at 42mm, much thinner at 10.4mm vs. 16.7mm and much lighter with titanium at 38grams (case) vs. 107gram (case) of Raven. Aerospace still gives you the digital functions with a less busy dial (no circular slide rule).

They both should be available at ADs or to order.

Ooh, thanks for the advice! I will look at the Aerospace as well-- the busy dial is kind of what drew me to the Airwolf, actually, although realistically I can't see myself needing to use a slide rule on the fly so I probably can't justify it, especially being so much thicker and wider... Having looked at the site, I like the Aerospace, too, although I think I might prefer the Airwolf objectively without seeing them in relation to my arm. Will be in town tomorrow, though, so I'll pop into the ADs there and see how I feel...

Is the price difference between these two very big? That might tip things in one direction or another...

Damn, that's quite a difference. I'll definitely have to check them both out. At least I'd be going for the rubber so I'll save a bit that way.

IF you want the steel (or titanium) bracelet anyway then you should consider buying the watch with it. Breitling does not charge extra $$$ when buying a bracelet afterwards ( :lingsrock: ), but if you can get a discount on the watch (which you will) then it will apply to the bracelet, too. And you save $$$ on a bracelet you may consider as inferior...

Well, back from the shops having tried on both the Airwolf Raven and the Aerospace. Unfortunately I couldn't find an Aerospace with the black face like I wanted, but I was very much taken with how much slimmer it is than the AWR, which made it seem a even smaller than the 1.5mm by which it actually is smaller:

Aesthetically, I think I prefer the AWR, but the practicality of the Aerospace, and the big difference in price (€1100) makes me really consider the Aerospace a lot... Any opinions on the difference between the two, and what, if anything might make the AWR worth the extra bulk and cash?

For the sake of more things to look at, I also tried on a SuperOcean:

Which I like a lot, but think is a tiny bit too plain for the fact that it's almost the same price as the Aerospace...

And a Navitimer:

I absolutely love this, but it's both too thick and too expensive right now. Such a beautiful watch, though!

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Nice :wowzers

Go for the Airwolf Raven or the SuperOcean

Those are the two best for you i think ... the Navitimer is to big ...

To be honest, I think the Airwolf is too big on your wrist. The smaller 40-42mm size cases would be a better fit IMO (which isn't worth much usually). If you think the SO is too plain then you will probably think the 38mm SO Heritage is also, still sporty with the black bezel though.

Sounds as though you like sporty with some features (?). Have you checked out the chrono cockpit or new chrono galactic? A bit more cost though :( .

Of the ones you pictured, I still like the Aerospace best on your wrist. :D

Good luck, keep us informed!

Hi,

I might be blind or something, but the lugs on the Airwolf seem to protrude massively over your wrists.
I'm sorry to say that - I really prefer the airwolf, but it does not seem to be made for you. :(

The navitimer OTOH seems to fit OK. If you like it, why not saving a bit cash until you can afford it? :santa: The Aerospace seems to be a "compromise" from what I can tell... and the white version (I tried the exact same on) made a bland impression on me. BUT you should get a MASSIVE discount (50% or so), it's old stock from what I can tell.... and white aerospaces are no big sellers either.

Regards!

Primordial - I think you are right, unfortunately. I actually just measured my wrist, and the circumference is only 140mm, which I think is probably the same as the Navitimer itself! I do like it a lot, but I can't see myself wearing something that big on a regular basis right now, maybe in a few years? I definitely don't want to get the Aerospace shown as I want one with a black face, so they'd have to order it for me-- so much less discount, alas. I was posting the photo more for opinions on size (and also just to post photos because it's always nice to see how a watch wears), really.

Kodiak - that's exactly what I'm looking for, sporty with features! Might enquire about an order for an Aerospace w/a black face when I'm in next, I think that's the best fit for me right now. I have looked at the Cockpits before, but they don't seem to have quite as many features as the Airwolf and the Aerospace...

wvynck - I think you're right about the Navitimer, but I think the Airwolf is too big, too, unfortunately. Might give the SuperOcean some more thought, but at the moment I'm leaning towards the Aerospace. I'll definitely have to see it in black before I can decide!

If you like the Navitimer look, take a look at the Montbrillant - there's even a new limited edition with an in house movement and display back - but that budget thing might get in the way of that one :(
