Hi all, I have been a long admirer of Breitling and now in a position to purchase my own, in trying several on I think that I have almost decided on the Blackbird with black face. However I was originally looking for the brushed finish, yet I have spoken to my brother who is a big watch fan and he has said that the stainless finish is the one to go for. The reason that I looked at the brushed finish was the subtlety of the watch and not so in your face. I know that ultimately it is my decision but what are everyones thoughts as I am really unsure. Brushed is the classic/original BB look. I prefer it to polished. You will get a few very firm opinions soon I'm sure. |

This would be my standard answer for this question. It is your wrist take as much time as you need and make your own decision. Remember you are the one wearing it not your brother. If I were you go by yourself and try them both on and the watch will choose you. |

Hello All! The Breitling Blackbird is an homage to the American reconnaissance plane SR-71 and the emergence of stealth technology. Henceforth, Breitling correctly originally made the watch in brush stainless steel. The brush steel adds a touch of subtlety to the watch resulting in a harmonious relationship with the dial. The qualities of such relationship is in an understated beauty and engineering achievement much in the same manner as the SR-71 Blackbird. By the way I think that the SR-71 Blackbird still holds the speed record for being the fastest plane ever. Anything less than a Brushed Stainless Steel Breitling Blackbird - is not a Blackbird in my opinion, at best mere representations of said watch but definitely not an homage piece. Ha ha, you were certainly correct  Im sure more will follow.My ultimate watch would be the blacksteel limited but have a metal strap, now that would be it. I always want what I cant have. ha ha. |

I struggled with this same decision when I chose my Superocean. I was looking at the Steelfish and the original SO. Steelfish is brushed and the SO is polished. The polished finish is ultimately what made the decision for me. Stunning. It's not over the top blingy but does have a commanding wrist presence. |

I feel the BB brushed finish is the classic look for it. If you really like the polished finish go for some thing in the Windrider range just MHO. Hope this thread helps you make up your mind I know it's not easy!

I would suggest that you wait until you are able to strap both on and see which one 'speaks' to you louder. Brushed vs. polished BB always generates lots of strongly held beliefs, but it's your money, and your watch. When you see them side by side and can strap them both on to your wrist and see the look then you'll know which one is right for you - and that's all that matters. |
