Post subject:  Opinion on these watch tools please!
I'm looking for a high quality watch repair/tool kit to remove links from bracelets and change from strap to bracelet on of course Breitlings. For now I have a Pro II so the kit needs that size tool, but additionally I would like it to cover future purchases.

I really don't want some cheap crap like I used last time that spun out of the screw in the link. Also need a spring bar tool, but not sure the size needed.

This kit seemed a little pricey but it is a brand I trust...

Assuming the screwdrivers are useful sizes, it looks like quite a nice set for what you need. They look like they have hardened, ground tips so should fit snugly in screw heads. Lots of replaceable tips as well. Would be nice if they stated screwdriver sizes though.

I would stick with the Swiss brand Bergeon, Increideble quality and long lasting, a bit pricey, but they worth every Penny.

Foremeost you need the Bergeon 6767F spring bar tool. The forked end is the right size to remove bracelets form the case and it's well made. The other end is a pin that can come in handy. Get extra tips.

Other than that I bought a full set of rather inexpensive jeweler screw drivers on a rotating caddy. The key is extra blades for the screw drivers. Mine has that and I'm still on my first set. No matter the brand, the screw drivers you use the most will chip eventually. It is very important to have a full and sharp blade.

A pair of jewelers needle nose pliers will help on some bracelets to pull the pin out after the screw is removed (not necessary for Breitling bracelets). The tweezers in most kits are helpful for setting screws in place.

That's pretty much it - if you are just working on bracelets and straps, you really don't need to spend several hundered dollars.

mywatchmaker.net is the best US supplier of the 6767F and extra tips. I think I got the other stuff from bostonwatchexchage and didn't spend much more than $100 for all of it and bought the pieces separate.

With watch tools you most certainly get what you pay for. For strap changing I would never recommend anyone except Bergeon - and the 6767F is less than $20 so why go cheap?

In terms of screwdrivers, all of mine are Bergeon, although Horotec are also good quality - wouldn't use anything else even if they were free.

I checked the links you provided and did not spot a screwdriver set in a caddy under $100. They had both Horotec & Bergeon sets which look to be awesome in the $140-$300+ range. Though I don't mind spending the money, I've bought 2 sets already here from local places, neither of which work. They blades are the right width, but they are too thick. Which of course cause them to have a bad fit, and though I tried to do it right, they still spun out of the screws on occasion damaging a couple of them. Now I need new screws! :evil:

Do you spot the set you have there?

I was thinking the Horotec 9 piece in the wooden box, seems best bang for buck for what I need @ $145. Should that fit for changing Breitling bracelet lengths?

Perfect size for braceelets is 1.8mm, 1.6mm also works.

Thanks Roff, that set comes with a 1.6mm & 2.0mm, so maybe it is less than ideal.

I've read here that you can get a Bergeon 1.8 separately.

It's possible I spent more than I intially indicated. I know I spent less than Bergeon. check out ottofrie (sp?) dot com too.

1.8mm is tough to find these days - 1.6mm and 2.0mm will be fine.

the website is actually www.ofrei.com - the main Otto Frei website is for their jewellery business, ofrei is the watch specific stuff.

The website you linked my has a page of Horotec individual drivers, no 1.8mm but 1.6mm and 2.0mm. They come with a pack of replacement blades as well under $20. That would be the easiest option for me as I only plan to ever have Breitlings, so if I need another size, I can buy a single. I don't need a whole set really.

What size would you recommend between the two. I REALLY don't want to spin out of any screws again.

1.6mm, 2.0mm will be too big.

Ok many thanks Shark & Roff,

Will get the 6767F for sure, trying to decide on which screwdriver sets to get, the Bergeon Ergonomic or the Bergeon Stainless Steel one.... tough call!
