Does anyone have any experience with Ulysse Nardin? I've been contemplating adding one of them to my collection, but have no intel on them. Breitling & Rolex tend to be my measuring sticks :lingsrock: ...more so on the Breitling (Imagine that) ...but I know both watch makers produce quality products that are dependable, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and hold their values well. The other watches in my collection are sub Breitling/Rolex standard, (TAG Hauer, Movado, and Tonino Lamborghini....pretty much in that order); they are nice for what they are and the price points I paid for them.....most importantly I like them :) , but they are not in the same league IMO to "Lings" or "Rollies". I am a newbie in the world of WIS with only a few years of experience, so I am relying on some of you more Wizened WIS's out there on your take of Ulysse Nardin. Some of the models that have caught my eye are included below:

The search function will show up a lot of threads about UN in the general watch section. They make some very nice watches - the gold Executive Dual Time being a good example, but they also make a lot of watches that are expensive generic movements. I like a number of their pieces, but think others are overpriced for what they are. I would put some a long way ahead of Breitling, and some not as good. They also have a tremendous range of price points in their models (and not just one or two at each level either).

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of UN...

I agree. I think that some are interesting looking, but in a tacky way.

+1 to Roff.

Some of their stuff is what id consider to be lower than Breitling, however their top stuff will violently crush anything that Breitlings got.

Crush it like a bull in a Breitling shop perhaps

I'm with you Roff, that ET is a really nice unique looking watch. The Executive Dual Time, The GMT+/- Big Date, and the Maxi Marine Diver are some of the models that catch my eye. Above you mentioned the generic movements (assuming ETA) vs in house variety. I was pouring over UN's site and in particular the movements, but I was unable to distinguish what you were referring to. Also thanks for pointing me in the direction of using the search function on the threads....that was also informative as well.

UN is simialr to BReitling in some ways with movements - some are ETA based calibres, some are in house. However, UN tends to make fewer modifications to their ETA based movements than Breitling.

Don't get me wrong, I love Breitling, but UN is in another league. Some of my favorite un's:

Some of their designs are a bit odd though.

Well that's an understatement, but I really like these two.

Needless to say, not one of my favorite designs by UN.

I've had experience with a few and quite honestly, I really like them. Granted there are pieces that I wouldn't touch, but even the Maxi Marine Diver, although pretty expensive for a pretty generic movement was a great watch!

I'm having a hard time not buying a rhodium dial MMD or the black dial Executive dual time.

I agree jnelson....that Executive Dual Time in the gold is a very impressive looking timepiece and would rank up there as a Grail  for me. Although that El Toro that Roff posted is a very interesting piece as well. :wowzers The problem is there are so many nice quality pieces out there and a guy can only wear one watch at a time. At what point does this all become an obsession and the men in the white suits show up to haul you off to the padded room?

Dig the maxi marine diver but most of the high dollar stuff I just don't get? Guess I'm a simple guy who enjoys well made dive watches and simple looking chronographs!
