Bought mine end of 2008, so the 2 yrs warranty is running out.

Watch still in perfect running condition, but should I have the free 1st service done now (while still under warranty), or can I wait till battery actually runs out?

My concern is if I wait, Murphy shows up and something was found to be wrong during the battery change right after the warranty is up...

Appreciate your advice!

First service = allways free. Has nothing to do with the official warranty.

Yeah, my concern is if an issue was found during the first service. If the warranty has already expired, will I get a bill, or would it still be covered under "FREE 1st Service"? (regardless of warranty period).

Service will cover cleaning, oiling, transmitter service and replacment of 'consumables' - hands for example. If they find another problem that they believe is caused by owner negligence - water ingress when the seals are good for example, then expect a bill.

If there is a problem that they can't prove is user error then I suspect that they'll just address it.

Thats correct. The fixed price of the other services after the first, free, one cover everything except damage by "owner negligence".
