Will the more busier parts of a watch - like balance wheel and anchor - run out on oil earlier than the other moving parts or will the Incabloc and/or the jewels cones at the tap ends ensure a certain stock of oil ? Or is the friction that low that it really does`nt matter ? |

There are two types of oil viscosities commonly used - heavier for heavy duty applications (typically metal on metal) and lighter for most other places (some metal on metal, commonly metal on jewel). The oil is designed to remain in place where it is placed and is not consumed by the motion of the watch. When a watch needs servicing it is not because it has 'run out' of oil, there is some loss, but it's minor, rather the oil has broken down and is no longer providing adequate lubrication. Servicing the watch will include a cleaning of the disassembled movement to remove the old oil prior to re oiling. |
