New to the board and have found some great info. My wife just surprised me with a Chrono Superocean, black dial, steel bracelet. She went to a jeweler at some friends recommendations, however, it was not an authorized dealer. She did not know any better and was so happy to get it for me that I did not let her know this was a mistake. From all the pics I have seen it sure does look authentic and I called Breitling. The model number matches the serial number but that is all they could tell me. Sounds like the fakes are so good I am wondering if I should send it in to Breitling for authentication. She bought it while we were in chicago visiting friends so returning it may be tough and I doubt they will. Any thoughts for a Breitling newbie?

Was it a used watch?

No, it is supposed to be new. It came in the box with instructions and an international warranty card. No dealer info is on the card though. It still had the clear plastic pieces covering the back and the band clasp. I have looked at many pictures on the Breitling site and the fourms and cannot tell a difference.

Its really odd to see a brand new Breitling from a non-authorized Breitling dealer that is a brick and mortar store... but if he's a reputable jeweller its probably real.

We have a few non authorised dealers over here (UK) that sell genuine watches - They source the watches from other countries where the pound is stronger and sell them at quite a discount, because they are grey imports the warrenty card cannot be stamped by a UK dealer. they usually have a foreign stamp but in the cases where this is not possible they offer a full 2 year warranty in place of the Breitling one and give you every possible piece of information about their company to help alay any fears you may have. I was more than happy to buy from them but managed without very much persistance to get my AD to price match them. Might be the same kinda thing in Chicago

Strange.. out here in Canada I never see Breitlings at unauthorized dealers. I do see Omegas, Tissot, Baume et Mercier, Tag Heuer at unauthorized dealers though.
