I set my SO this morning at 5AM and at 9PM it is 5 sec. fast. I know by tomorrow moring it will even be faster. Is there something wrong with it? I know you can either make your watch gain or lose time on how you set the watch down when not wearing it. Anybody have some insight on this? Thanks!

Considering COSC specs are -4/+6 it looks like your watch is out of spec. If it is still under warranty you can always send it in.

A good way to check the differences in time keeping depending on watch position is each night before you go to bed, check to see how fast your watch is. Then set it one position, then wake up and check to see how much faster or slower it ran. Repeat this process with the watch facing up, facing down, on the side crown up, on the side crown down, watch vertical with the 12 marker up, watch vertical with the 6 marker up.

If you're lucky, you can find a position where your watch runs slow so while you're sleeping it can counter-act your watch running fast during the day. All in all, no matter the position I would think it should still fall within spec.

I just did my first 24 hr test, and am curious if a watch will keep better time while in the box than on the wrist. It would seem that way, but who knows.

My SOH is running less than a second slow after setting it last night @ 10PM, but I also only wore it after I got home at 5PM CST. This is fantastic, but should I expect more variance in the future?

Accuracy of a watch can vary because of a number of different factors, and before we get too carried away with taking a watch back because of a single variance over a 16 hour period, there are a number of things to consider.

A new watch will take several weeks to settle - testing COSC within the first 4 - 6 weeks of ownership is a pointless exercise as accuracy will adjust as the watch gets used to a routine. Watches can also gain time on the wrist and then lose it overnight and be absolutely perfect over a 24 hour period.

Accuracy is affected by temperature, temperature change, position, the amount of power reserve, etc, etc, etc. I would be looking for evidence for a consistent error outside of COSC specs before trying to get the watch regulated. The position that you leave your watch overnight will affect the rate - laying it on its back will generally cause it to run faster than laying it on its side (crown up).

The watch may need regulating, and in an older watch a failure to stay within COSC specs may be an indication that the watch needs servicing, but you need more than one simple time variance to determine that.
