Well, we've been outgrowing this hosting solution for quite some time now, so I have to migrate the server to another hosting platform now. The overages that I am incurring are not cost effective so I am going to move to a more powerful cost-effective solution.

I'm not the most sysadminny of sysadmins, but I am going to attempt to host it on a semi-managed virtual dedicated server that allows scalability. This means I need to understand more and learn some stuff. Hopefully this will be more powerful than the current hosting that I am using, and not incur random amount of extra charges for overages!

I've already decided the route to go and will be doing this over the next month.

The site has been moved, and hopefully everything works out smoothly, though there might be some bugs. Please le me know.

I'm working on the file attachments.. they are big so will take a while to get back uploaded.

The advertising should support the forum fine as long as it doesn't outgrow this server solution again! But I'm guessing I can charge those guys more if the traffic goes up even more

I spent an hour on the Breitling forum on WUS - it was painful.

I did the same. It was like watching a double A baseball game when the yankees aren't playing.

There appears to be several thumbnails that are not working, but when you click on them the full-size does work.

I'm not sure why this is, as I copied almost all (missing 11) of the uploaded files. I had a problem with 11 of them as my Anti-virus said they were virii and wouldn't let me copy them.

New photos should work fine, however.

Okay - obviously there is some sort of problem since the server crashed last night.

Yes, now that the server is dedicated, when I run out of resources instead of charging me money, it crashes :)

So I have to buy more resources to begin with... I hope its not going to be too expensive :wowzers

I keep telling you the answer, put a dedicated link up to a donation page. You will be amazed at how many member WANT to help out. You could also add a little donation section? That way members who donate get to see it (we don't want this but maybe would help you feel better charging  )

No - don't want to ask for donations.. the forum should be able to support itself.. if it can't I'm doing something wrong! I did not realize how much resources a PhpBB forum uses though until now!

A Ram Upgrade is not too expensive so I will try that.

Our faithful admin is noble enough not to ASK for contributions. Buuuut, for those interested there is a way to do it. Simply PM the admin and indicate you would like to contribute. This site provides us with a wealth of info in a handy package and has saved us all money one way or another. (cost us some too, but we ended up with terrific watches in the process). We have been able to learn of watches we hadn't considered and rule out some we were thinking about. Many of us have been able to buy watches with complete confidence from regular members and sell some of our "overages" as well.

Admin doesn't want people to feel the need to contribute. And you don't. It's an open forum and free. But any contibutions will be gratefully accepted.
