| Post subject: | Barely visible serial number - will Breitling service? |
I was reading some posts in Fakes section and several members stated that Breitling will not service the watch if serial number is absent from the caseback. What is the serial number is there, but the case has been polished so much that number is barely visible? If one needs to look at different angles to read the number - will be such watch serviceable? Thanks! |

Yes, I've confirmed this with BUSA. I took a watch to their CT office to be authenticated, the seriel number was very difficult to read from the previous owner polishing; they took out a loop and read the seriel number. I asked if they would service it in the future and they said absolutely yes. If the seriel number was completely removed then there would be an issue. |

if it's just barely visible...why wouldn't breitling engrave it again if they can make out the #s? |

I have a feeling they will replace the caseback when at service, rather than re-engrave the serials. |

If they replace the caseback - what will happen with the paperwork (warranty card and chronometre certificate)? Those papers list the number on the caseback and if they give you new one during the service, then the papers will not match the SN on the watch anymore. |

What you are saying - they basically take new blank caseback and stamp it with the serial number from old caseback. Correct? |

Well, for the record, this is all speculation. I'm not really sure what exactly Breitling would do, but they have a penchant for replacing parts instead of fixing them. I think it would make more sense for them to place a new caseback with the SN already etched into it. |

I think speculation is dangerous. I know for me personally, one of my Breitlings was sent to BUSA for warranty service and when they returned it to me, after polishing, they had nearly removed the SN. And they didn't replace the back, re-engrave it, or make mention of their mistake. I was not impressed. |

I suppose there are only two responses: either they don't really care or they don't consider it an issue but as you note, speculation is dangerous. It will interesting to see what happens next time around. |
