Post subject:  Your opinions of the cost of Flying B

Hi All,

I had the immense pleasure of getting up close and personal with some Flying B models this last weekend.

I was incredibly impressed with the designs, the details and the quality of fit and finish. In fact they were all drop dead gorgeous.

However, I personally tend to think of many more watches in the $15K stainless steel bracket before I think of these.

The AD had a great discount offer going on these models so I may just go for one.

But, my naive question is, why are these stainless steel watches so expensive? Can Breitling really ask the same money for a stainless steel watch as Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, etc with their manufacture movements.

Please try and sell these to me because I want one but can't mentally get over the cost barrier.

Sorry, I can't sell you the idea because in my opinion they are over priced. Breitling ADs agree and in North America at least they have been available with 50% off for two years or more and they still aren't shifting them so the discounts are going up just to free up cash for current inventory.

To some degree all of the Bentleys are overpriced, but these Flying Bs were an attempt to go higher end still, past the sporty Bentleys into the next level. The bottom line is that it hasn't worked, the Flying B had polarising looks but none of those models (B, #2, B Chrono, Mark VI, Complications 19, Complications 29) have sold well and they are all heavily discounted.

If you like it then you can get a real bargain, and as they are discontinued they won't be producing any more, but the current prices with 50%+ off are much closer to the prices that they should be selling for.

Thank You for the informative and honest reply Prof.

The AD I visited was offering 50% off all B for B models. The Flying B caught my eye but I still though it a little expensive. I I thought I was getting a great bargain I may have bought it knowing that I could sell it on without a loss later. However, from what you say that may be difficult.

Had my eye on a couple of other Breitling models but I was only offered 20-25% off. It seems that these were probably still a better deal than the Flying Bs.

Plus, although my wife thought they were a gorgeous watch she thought they looked a little silly on my 6.5" wrist.

Thanks again for the great advice.

Buy the one that you want - 50% off something that is your second choice isn't a deal!

I have noticed that eBay is full of Flying Bs, some of them are heavily discounted. You may want to take a look.

Ive seen them for as much as 60% off. If you like the watch, I think thats a great deal. They are definitely a rip off, but you I guess breitling justifies it with unique features such as the jump hour complication. Like roff said, 50% off is not a deal if youre not getting the watch you want.
