Due to a death in the family I have a choice of either a "blue face" B-1 or a good condition older Rolex Datejust with diamonds in the numbers. I like them both for different occasions of use, but can only choose one!
I could not find any information on if this piece will increase in value or stay the same since its been discontinued. The Rolex has its storied history and seems to hold its value but has been accused of being too common.
I thought I would bounce this off of you for input since I am new to the collection passion and on limited time to research.
thanks for the input.....

Well sorry that the opportunity hasn't come about in better circumstances.

The B-1 is a quartz watch so it's never going to be a long term investment - it's going to be obsolete one day. Breitling has stated that they will support movementd for 20 years beyond when they stop using them, but sooner or later they will stop.

From a pure investment standpoint go with the Rolex, as a watch to enjoy - go with your heart.

Thanks....Nice insight on the movement support. Makes perfect sense.
As I said, they both are fantastic yet different. I am leaning towards the Rolex as I was thinking along the same lines as your comment but needed some additional information.

The bottom line is that regardless of which holds its value better, neither of them will be worth that much in the future. Assuming that you actually plan on using the watch, id go with the one that you like more.

If it were me I'd go with the Rolex, I'm not really a big Rolex fan but the Date-Just is a beautiful watch, especially with the diamond markers, it's also an auto vs. the quartz B1 and I think it can be more of an heirloom type of watch if you're interested in that type of thing. One question though, do either of them come with the box and papers, that might sway my decision as well.

It's all been said already I think, but yes the Rolex is likely to stay running for longer as it's mechanical (so can always be repaired) while the B-1 is quartz. The Rolex will always also have a higher resale value because it's got the Rolex name on the dial.

However, if you want to wear it, then there would be no point in chosing the Rolex if you didn't actually like it. However, if you like them equally then the Rolex would be the better bet IMHO.

IF you like them equally then I would say Rolex.

To be honest, I see the B-1 as a great "second watch". It, IMO, is jthe type of watch to be peppered in between other pieces when you're looking to change things up. I feel the Rolex is much more of a daily wearer. Also, the fact that is mechanical is far far more interesting in that it, with proper care, can last a lifetime.

In the end, the decision is yours to make. The watch is ultimately for you and you alone so make the decision that makes you happy!
