Hi guys, I was looking to buy a brand new Super Avenger but a colleague wants to sell his and has offered me a price which I am finding hard to turn down.

It's the baton marker dial in blue, and he said he bought it a year and a half ago and is willing to let it go for £950. Says he got a good deal on it at the time and is willing to let it go for cheaper, also said he needs the money.
Seems awfully cheap to me, what is the going rate for this piece given its age?

Thing is he bought it whilst he was on holiday in Dubai, and not wanting to pay customs duty he wore it back to the UK and stupidly threw away the box etc.

Is there anyway of me checking the authenticity of the watch other than taking it to a dealer?
ie. do the watches come with some sort of serial number on the casing or anything like that?

There will be a serial number on the caseback. You best bet would probably be to take some good pictures of it, dial and case back, and post them on here in the Replica section. Someone here will be able to let you know if it's real or not. As far as price goes, I'm not too sure.

Price is rather cheap, not sure what UK pricing is, but North American pricing is nearer $2,500 so that's about $1,000 cheaper.

Hi thanks for the reply.
He might think I'm a bit wierd if I start taking pics of his watch.

However, I may try and get the serial number. Once I have it, can I just call up any Breitling AD and ask them to confirm authenticity?

Yes the very low price is giving me niggling doubts, but then again that maybe because he really does need the money and also because the watch has no box/documents etc.

But I want to be 100% if I do go ahead with it.

Breitling ADs won't be able to verify from the serial number, but they can contact Breitling SA to confirm that it is a real serial number, the model that it belongs to and the country where it was first sold.

I don't see why your colleague would think that you were a bit weird for doing your homework before spending almost GBP 1,000.

:yeahthat

If he really needs the money I don't see why he wouldn't let you take a couple of pics. If he won't then it would make me think twice about buying it.

It IS awfully cheap. I'd be careful if I was you. Take a couple of decent closeup pictures (front and back) and post them up and we'll be able to tell you in a few seconds if it's OK or not.

That should be about £1,500 without papers IMUHO. Get it checked.

If you 'mate' is kosher he would have no prob with both of you going to an AD.

I wouldn't go near it if I were you unless you know it's a colleague you can trust, it doesn't sound right to me.
