I think I finally made up my mind on my second brietling. White dial SA on a brown deployant croc strap. Are the croc straps water proof??? Or water resistant enough to wear in the pool? I know this may sound like a silly question but crocadile do spend alot of time in water!

mac5217,

Just get the SA on the STEEL BRACELET it belongs on and you won't have to worry about the waterproof issue. An SA on a strap and a Brown one no less is DEGRADATION of one of the best Lings ever produced. Also, no quality leather strap is ever going to stand up to exposure to water for very long, that's what they make that SICK Rubber strap for.

mac5217, I have the very same SA! I started mine off on blue croco which looked awesome, but I have now swapped it to a brown and it looks even better. To echo the other responses, no, all Breitling leather (croco or otherwise) are definitely not waterproof.

So if you want to have just one utilitarian watch that you can wear anywhere and everywhere (including swimming), then you may be best to steer clear of leather and go for the bracelet. But if you can bear to take your SA off when you go swimming, then I can throughly recommend the SA on croco.

The rubber dive straps also look terrific, and are obviously waterproof. You should check those out as well. Plus, if cost is a conern, or if you don't care for bracelets, they are quite a bit cheaper.

Leather, when it have been processed off the animal, will never be waterproof. You can treat it with waterproofing chemicals, oils and fat - this will prolong it's water resistance but still it's not waterproof. If you want to take your Breitling to the pool, there are two options:

* Take your existing Breitling leather strap (croco, calf, shark...) and use excess amounts of impregnating substances. Repeat the procedure quite often. It's difficult to tell in advance exactly how the Breitling strap will respond to this - it's on your own risk.

* Buy a cheap(er) leather strap and either treat it with impregnating substances and see how it responds, or just use it in the pool without treatment. Then you probably have to exchange it a few times per year. Of course you can do the last part with your original Breitling strap too, but it'll be more expensive.

Thanks! I've had it for a little while. I bought this one from a member here and a black one with a dep from my AD for some variety. Just playing around until Baselworld. I'm hoping something new will tickle my fancy. :)
