Hi everyone,

This site is really great as I am a massive Ling fan and can't wait until I finish uni in the UK so I will finally have some cash to expand my collection!!!

Anyway, in the mean time I am very happy with my Colt Quartz II (Baby Ling!). I love the mix of polished and brushed metal on the case and was thinking about polishing the middle link of my brushed Pro II bracelet.

Am I crazy in thinking that this is possible to do myself? I was thinking cape cod cloths and masking tape may do the trick? Does anyone have any experience of polishing in detail?

Any advice is welcome.

If you want to do it yourself then Cape Cods and masking tape will be your best bet. However, I have heard that the finish will not be quite up there with a factory finish, and if you do it yourself with Cods then you will be there a mighty long time!!! (But then if you're at uni you're gonna have a ton of time on your hands anyway!! :lol: :wink: <joke>)

Another option may be to have a look online as there are a number of companies that will do watch modifictions for you, including polishing up matt surfaces and vice versa.

I did the bracelet on my Submariner and my Flieger with a Dremel tool and a buffing compound that came with my Dremel polishing kit. I purchased some Cape Cod cloths and use them strictly as a second stage polisher. They work well, but it takes a LOT of work to polish something that is brushed with them by hand.

I use them lightly on the finish, and use a buffing wheel to bring out the factory shine.

if your watch is under warranty... when you send it for service.

Can you request them to polish it? Maybe it will cost you some... but not as much as buying the whole new band!?!?

If you purchased your Quartz from an reputable local dealer, see if they can polish & clean it up for ya! I've taken my LINGs into my AD (the one i purchased them from) twice now for cleaning and whatever they do that makes them so shiny.

Not only does it keep me on a first name basis with my AD, (helpful for when I goto purchase my Navi World) but it keeps my LINGs in tip top shape!

Thanks for all the replies, I've come to the conclusion that it'll be more trouble then it's worth so I'm gonna leave things as they are!

And yes Driver8 I usually do have a lot of time on my hands being a student but right now I'm snowed under writing my dissertation. The deadline is 4th of April and I only started yesterday!!!
