Hi, New to this so please excuse if I do it wrong. I have a Breitling Flying B in SS which I bought Oct 06. It was sent back to Breitling twice in the first 12 months as the hour digit was not working right. After getting it back the last time I stored the watch for 2.5 years and have just wound it to find it will not work. Watches of Switzerland where I bought it from said if they are not wound they will seize up and they want £450 to service it. My Breitling GT Limited Edition is about 6 years old and works perfectly despite having long periods not used. Is there a problem with Flying B's as I'm told they have been discontinued and wonder if it is worth spending more money if it's a bad watch. If I have it repaired where could I sell the watch to get the best price or is here no second hand market on these watches. Robert |

The Flying B was discontinued because it was unpopular, and that will decrease the resale value accordingly - you can buy them new these days at 50% or more discount. The best place to try and sell would be either eBay or the Buy / Sell / Trade forums here, TimeZone or WatchUSeek. A watch that hasn't been wound for 2 1/2 years may have some lubrication problems, likely more associated with the oil moving from where it is needed than breaking down. I'm not sure that the full service (the $450 one) would be needed, a basic service ($200 - $250) should be sufficient. |

When was the Flying B discontinued? I still see it on the Bentley site. |

Thhose things are the watch world equivalent of the edsel. I can't believe how big a flop they are. And i really like em. I have seen then brand new for 5 k!, like 70 off!! I will bey one. Theybare gonna be so cheap at some point but there are HUNDREDS on eBay they can't give away. Unreal. |

I honestly have thought about one myself. Just dont know if I would wear it enough, or would the main reason be that I would feel like I am getting such a "good deal"..I dunno. |

All the ones you see on e-bay are primarily from one or two sellers that don't actually have the watch. Rather they list every possible combination and when they get a sale they go and find the watch from an dealer, pay a bit over invoice and move it. Look at any other Breitling the same seller offers and you will see that they have all the other combinations covered too. |

I went on the B4B site last night to look at this and a few things stood out. I only like the chrono edition. The mother of peal inlayed for the markers is beautiful. I also like how they matched the date wheel to the color you choose. However, I dont like the green date wheel, blue etc, it looks nice when its black or brown or white. I think maybe what has drawn people away from this watch is the very simple rectangle shape. I seem to like more cushion shaped or rectangle with some roundness to them ( I think this has become the new kind of rectangle watch), just like the watch Roff just picked up. |

I am sure there are a few people who have the flying B ,and really like them, However I am not one of them. The B stands for Boring. I feel awful for anyone who paid less than 50% for one. Maybe even 60% off. |

I think the Flying B is a smart looking watch. Its just too damn expensive. Whatever. I think your problem is that you let it sit for so long. For all you know, it could have had that problem before you left it to sit, but because there was such a lapse in use, its impossible to say. I think if its a watch that you enjoy and plan to keep, send it to Breitling for a basic service and see what they say. |
