What is the purpose of the 0-100 index surrounding the dial of the Headwind? |

There are a few models that break the hour down into hundredths, but I'm not sure what the practical purpose is. |

SCD wrote: What is the purpose of the 0-100 index surrounding the dial of the Headwind? I think it's used for converting decimal time. For example, 8.75 hours would be read as 8 hours, 45 minutes on your watch because the 75 hundredths marker is at the 45 dial marker. Same goes for minutes, seconds, etc. Hope I didn't confuse you, I'm not great at explaining things! |

Well that makes perfect sense, but I've never heard of decimal time or anyone using decimal time. Perhaps that's all there is to it. |

It is used when logging flight time. To make the math easier. Also, it is usually only measured to the closest tenth of an hour. R/ |

When timing operations, loading times, turn around times, decimal time is quite useful. I use it when I estimate, it makes it much easier to calculate. |

Army aviators, like all the other branches of the service, log flight time in hours/tenths of hours. Same with maintenance hours (airframe/powerplant usage). Best, Ron |

My military involvement has consisted of infantry and small unit tactics. So, I learned something new. Thanks. |

•Decimal time is the representation of the time of day using units which are decimally related. This term is often used to refer specifically to French Revolutionary Time, which divides the day into 10 decimal hours, each decimal hour into 100 decimal minutes and each decimal minute into 100 ...
